Hospice/Palliative Care Resources_________________ Hospice care is a specialized care designed to provide support to you and your loved ones during an advanced illness. Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. The goal of hospice care is to live each day as fully as possible. Hospice care affirms life and views death as a natural process. Hospice services must be prescribed by a physician, typically when life expectancy is anticipated to be six months or less. It can be provided in the home or in a residential or nursing facility and includes the termination of curative treatment of the disease. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal of both hospice and palliative care is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. This may be accomplished by nurses, medical and religious staff, caregivers, and financial professionals. Funding of hospice care is provided by Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, supplemental insurance, and Medi-Cal.
