SENIORS FIRST PLACER COUNTY RESOURCE GUIDE

Board and care (B&C) facilities are typically small residential homes in the community (typically 6–15 beds) called Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE). These homes are licensed through CCL and provide room and board (private or semi-private), meals, housekeeping, and non-medical staff to assist you. B&C facilities are typically funded privately. If you need medical assistance or rehabilitation, there are rehabilitation facilities, typically used when someone is being discharged from the hospital but continues to require therapeutic follow up. This may be funded by Medicare for up to 100 days if the individual continues to make progress with their therapies. If there is no progress, Medicare will discontinue funding. Skilled nursing facilities (SNF) offer medical services but are not typically paid for by Medicare. Medi-Cal does fund these services in specific facilities that accept that payment for service.
