Dolmen Domain is nestled in Central Park, serving as a vibrant hub for the appreciation of Asian arts and culture . The project provides performing art center , immersive exhibitions and spaces for artistic expression, a winter garden , and a mediation center . Zen gardens, inspired by Asian landscapes, offer serene spaces for reflection, community gatherings, and a celebration of the diverse Asian heritage in an inclusive environment.

To begin designing reliefs, I gather a kit of Callowhill artifacts, both existing and historic, for assembling a relief. I also analyze sculptures by Louise Nevelson for relationship of figure, ground, frame, edge , solid, void and threshold. The studio will engage in a process of defamiliarization.

Bombyx Mori Habitat revitalize the silk industry of Callowhill, Philadelphia that has been forgotten for hundred years due to the popularization of cheap and environmentally harmful materials. New studies and technology in attempt to make silk again become a luxury material were amazing. Bombyx Mori Habitat envisions silk industry finds its new existence in architectural forms on an urban relief .

2.02 High Relief -Artifact Assemblage Relief and AI-Generated Images

After I gathered a kit of Callowhill artifacts , both existing and historic, I assembled them considering the relationship of figure, ground, frame, edge , solid, void and threshold , inspired by Louise Nevelson.

The market is located under the mulberry garden high line. The architectural forms (floors, ceilings, figures, marekt stalls, streets) are highly motivated by the relief forms from the conceptual studies. The giant cocoon forms serve architecturally as load carriers and programmatically as vertical circulation connecting the market and the ligh line and other facilities. 2.07 Market Floor Plan

2.04 Three Dimensional Reliefs Using Ai tools to help generated relief images, I analyzed the formal, pattern, and figural qualities from the images, then extracted them into 3D models. I would place these AI-inspired models on the site considering the circulation and programs. This studio also incorporated defamiliarization in designing the urban relief on the site.

Located at the confluence of the Río Fucha and the Kennedy district in Bogotá, Re-Weaving Rio Fucha aims to transform a heavily polluted urban area into a thriving, sustainable community . This project envisions a multi-layered urban redevelopment that restores the ecological health of the river while creating a vibrant, inclusive neighborhood . This integrated approach not only rehabilitates the Río Fucha but also establishes a resilient, self-sustaining urban model for the future of Bogotá city.

This enhances urban sustainability by providing natural spaces that improve air quality, reduce heat islands, and support biodiversity. It encourages social interaction, promotes physical and mental well-being. Additionally, it aids in stormwater management and contributes to a more resilient and eco-friendly urban environment.

The average recommended daily intake of vegetables and fruits is 400g per person, per day, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

A water treatment system next to the Fucha River can provide clean, safe water for residential use by filtering and purifying river water . This system improves clean water accessibility for every day use and farming purpose. It helps manage and improve the river water conditions while supporting a resilient urban water supply.

It promotes healthier eating, minimizes environmental impact by cutting transportation emissions , and enhances food security . This micro-self-sufficiency model creates a sustainable, resilient lifestyle and improves mental well-being.

To fulfill the vegetable in need, 35610 square meters of indoor garden is required according to the average annual production of 4.1kg.

Having a waste management system can help organize all the solid waste and reduce inappropriate waste disposal . This can minimize environment pollution including water pollution, soil pollution, and air pollution for long-term economic and ecological benefits.

Currently, the site suffers from severe industrial pollution, illegal waste dumping, and canalization that has stripped the river of its natural self-cleaning abilities. Additionally, the surrounding high-density residential neighborhood lacks essential public services and quality living spaces .

3.01 Perspective VIew of Residential Tower and Landscape

Therefore, Re-Weaving Rio Fucha’s first mission is revitalize the ecological elements at the site including water quality, air quality, and flooding solution . At its foundation, a regenerated wetland park will work in tandem with advanced water and waste treatment systems to purify the river and mitigate flooding. After regulating the site’s ecology, we introduce living solution for the residents there and create “happy” living conditions for over 10,000 citizens. Strategically placed mixed-use centers will introduce commercial and public services, enhancing urban life. Above, residential towers will provide modern housing for relocated residents and accommodate a growing population, ultimately more than 10,000 citizens

3.01 Typical Residential Floor Plans

3.01 Perspective VIew of Residential Tower and Landscape The work combined environmental analysis and social research to address two core values how restoring urban waterways improve ecological health and how the interventions foster “happiness” and well-being in marginalized communities. Drawing from global precedents and local practices, the project examined how home gardens, community allotments, and green infrastructure maintenance not only enhance food security but also support a low-carbon, green economy .

The residential tower contain several district zones and multiples public commons including recreational areas, micro-farming and macro-farming. One tower is an self-sufficient city with all the technological and ecoligical facilities integrated for the residents. The project envisioned a multi-scalar intervention linking river remediation with community-led agriculture and public realm improvements , creating a self-sustaining ecosystems for urban cities facing similar environmental and social challenges.

601 Design Studio Fall 2023 Critic: Brian Phillips Length: 16 Weeks Solo Project

According to how the ethnic groups formed their community in a new place, I want to promote the idea of neighborhood in my project. A strong relationship between the neighbors and families would help the immigrants to build connections and learn English through communication. My design encourages people to walk around in the small neighbor alleys and have conversation within the immigrant community. The immigrants will have outside connection with the domestic people through works and the cohesion within their home community.

4.03 Ground Floor and Market Plan

On the ground floor, there is a food market operated by immigrants . This a good opportunity for the immigrants to maintain and spread their home cultures . The food market would attract domestic people to come to the building. This will provide profits to help run services within the building and encourage interaction between the immigrants and other domestic people .

The gossip program draws inspiration from Vietnamese culture’s use of neighborly gossip and social interactions on small alleys to build community. The human-scaled design intrigues and helps facilitate face-to-face communication between residents. Gossip is viewed as a powerful tool to increase social cohesion by bringing people together. The parallel roadhouse structures are designed to weave into one another to create intimate “gossip alleys” that foster relationships through casual conversation. It also solves most immigrants’ problems such as feeling lonely, overwhelmed or isolated because of new environment and language barrier.

Within a district or neighbor, there are three typical living units serving different groups of immigrants. The single unit is a one bed/one bath unit proving enough space and facilitiies for one person living. Couple units are for married couple with children providing two bed/two bath and larger living space. The biggest unit is for multi-generation family inluding married couple with more than 2 children or family with seniors and children. All units will have the interactive elements such as wide balconies or open windows or counters open to outside. 4.06 Three Typical Units (single, couple, family)

4.04 Precedent Studies and Inspiration

This project is inspired by the architectural forms from the residential neighborhood in Vietnam to creates social interaction and sense of community . I extract the elements, such as the open-counter, outside hang-out area, see-through door and window. that allow people to have conversation and view of other neighbors and people around.

From the precedent studies, I transformed the architectural elements into the the architectural language that adapts to the site. The forms can suggest the people to have conversation and interaction through the “wall” or in a small area.

The residential alleys sit atop the bustling downtown shopping mall, allowing residents convenient access to the urban area and Chinatown. Perched three to five stories above the mall. The people would go up through the mall by the stairs and the elevators at the lobby cores on the ground floor to get to their units in the residential areas.

Having affordable housings for immigrants on top of the mall creates a vibrant, mixed-use development that will benefit both residents and the surrounding community.

In essence, Bình Minh Adventure Village transcends the traditional hospitality model to create a definitive Luxury Adventure Village , meticulously engineered for the evolving demands of multi-generational travel. It serves as a living masterclass in “harmonious duality,” where the profound silence required for holistic healing and the high-energy pulse of outdoor exploration are combined for a complete family legacy. By situating our development within the rare ecological tapestry of Ho Tram, Vung Tau and placing the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the wild at the core of our design, we want to create an iconic Southeast Asian destination that is both a sanctuary and a playground , a world-class wellness retreat , offering an unparalleled platform where the restorative peace of the elders and the adventurous spirit of the youth find common ground in a setting of uncompromised luxury.

5.05 Herb Planting Pavilion This area is a dedicated space where the scents of nature serve as a bridge to wellness and heritage. Guided by expert botanists, guests embark on a sensory journey through a living library of 31 local medicinal species identified within the “Adventure Hive” zone. From the vibrant forms of Xao Tam Phan and An Xoa to the traditional aromas of Nhan Tran and To Moc, the experience delves deep into the biological power of the forest. Families can participate in hands-on workshops to learn the delicate balance of these plants: from the cooling properties of Sương Sâm to the potent, liver-supporting active ingredients of An Xoa. It is a sophisticated educational environment that ensures guests not only admire the biodiversity but also gain the vital knowledge to respect and utilize these natural remedies correctly within a luxury wellness context.

Cultural and sensory enrichment takes center stage through Baking and Tea Workshops , Herb Study , and an Outdoor Stage for grand events. Meanwhile, elders find restoration through Tai Chi , Meditation , and soothing Foot Massages , all culminating in idyllic family Picnics under the forest canopy.

For this project, I collaborated with my mom and an architect in Vietnam to design the renovation for our family home. I was responsible for developing the initial concepts and drawings, translating our ideas into clear layouts that reflected our needs and vision. I worked closely with the architect, who adapted my designs to meet Vietnamese building codes and prepared the official documents required for the building permit. I worked with my mom as a “client” to talk about the interior design including built-in furniture and materials.

The PMA extension is more than just a space to exhibit and celebrate art . It is a place where people can immerse themselves in nature through architecture that connects with the landscape and evokes human emotion. ICE PROJECT SERIES ROBOTIC APPROACHES TO SPATIAL 3D PPRINTING

Robotic Approaches to Spatial 3D Printing explores advanced industrial robot fabrication FGF (Fused Granular Fabrication) beyond traditional layered manufacturing. Through hands-on projects in the ARI Robotics Lab , the process consists of leverage six-axis robots for free-form material deposition and hybrid fabrication techniques, combining 3D printing with incremental robotic thermoforming. Our team develop prototypes to test different aspects by according to the material properties, structural annalysis and robotic programming and simulation . The outcome achieved creation of geometrically complex, materially efficient ceiling/wall panels, supported by industry research and architectural discourse on additive manufacturing.

Arboria Museum provides an immersive environment where Robinson Fredenthal’s artworks are showcased and understood, geometrically analyzed and transfered to an architectural language. It applied the curvature on top of the tetrahedron parti on a 9-square grid and the pattern and texture expressed the geometric beauty found in nature and art following the geometric surface.

The Muffle Chair is making room for people in the modern workplace. Sometimes, during the busy work day, people need to take private personal calls or simply need a moment of privacy away from the chaos. The top of the chair wraps around the ears to block and isolate sound and vision. This way, people cannot hear you talking and sound does not travel through the entire office as it does at a traditional open-office workspace. The Muffle Chair sits on a hidden rotatable base, which allows users to rotate the chair for a conversation or to rotate away for further privacy.

Jellyshroom is a deployable system combining structural principles, kinematics, and creative form . Using deployable forms, members, and joints studied in the course, they will create adaptable , portable structures that balance transformation, strength, and aesthetics, demonstrating deployable design’s potential to address functional aspects in architecture. The overall structure is called rotating two-layered dodecagon hyberboloid combines with 7 joint designs, 3 bolt connection designs, and 8 unique member designs.

LUPIN ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN OPERA

Urban Opera studio is an experimental architecture and landscape studio exploring time, transformation, and performance. A collaboration between the Weitzman School of Design and Versailles’ architecture and landscape schools, it investigates the evolving relationship between built and natural environments. Set on a bend of the Seine, the project maps ecological, social, and political shifts, integrating research , mapping , and speculative design . The studio culminates in a live performance —an opera—where sound, movement, and visual storytelling merge, redefining architecture as a dynamic, time-based practice that engages with climate change, urbanism, and the ephemeral nature of space.

12.06 Conceptual Mapping

Mapping is central to this Urban Opera, revealing the Seine’s shifting ecologies, infrastructures, and social dynamics. Through layered cartography, we analyze site transformations , developing narratives that inform speculative design. These mappings evolve into an urban opera—a performative exploration where architecture, sound, and movement merge. The final performance reimagines design as a fluid, multi-sensory experience, engaging with time, space, and environmental change.

With my passion for innovative design and planning , I am interested in reimagining the classic or traditional design. This project creates a conceptual space to give viewers a futuristic vision of Coe College campus by a architectural master plan model. The physical models focus on the aesthetics and formal exploration using geomtric shapes to transform the existing building design and illumination effect to highlight the forms and emphasize the futuristic concept.
