A Note From Lisa
What a wonderful July we had here at Hills Bank! Our Customer Appreciation Days ended the month on a high note (and started August off right too). We gave out 46,560 ears of sweet corn. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help make this highlight of the summer a success. We also had our annual Milestone
Anniversary Celebration! This year, thanks to feedback we received from all of you, we changed things up and held the celebration after work rather than as a breakfast. This made such a great difference as we had so many more people who were able to attend and
celebrate our honorees! This is one of my favorite occasions every year as it is a chance for all of us throughout the bank to gather, talk, laugh, and meet our celebrants’ family members.
This celebration is also always an inspiration to me in witnessing the longevity of the careers of so many people here. We celebrated 13 coworkers this year, who have worked at Hills Bank for a collective 400 years! Congratulations Tim, Keith, Pam, Becky, Cindy, Joni, Sandy, Karin, Stacey, Ken, Jill, Todd, and Kyle – you have each dedicated your years and yourselves to making Hills Bank a place of which we are honored to be a part and we are better for it. In my excitement around this event, Karin Bauer graciously helped me out in calculating the total number of years of service of all of our coworkers, and this number is simply astounding – together we have contributed a collective of 4,172 years with Hills Bank! That means that the average length of service with Hills Bank is roughly 8.5 years per coworker, which is more than double the national average of how long people stay with the same company of 4.1 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I sincerely believe that our coworkers’ longevity with Hills Bank is one of the biggest differentiators we have that allows us to continue our Hills Bank Way of truly caring for our customers and each other. Thank you to each of you, and I look forward to seeing what August brings our way! Not pictured: Stacey Bradley

120 Years in Thousands of Beads
We’re blown away by this work of art from customer Geraldine Ries, who created our 120 year anniversary logo by placing thousands of tiny beads in the pattern of our 120 logo!
Helping People Buy Homes
Our mortgage lenders have facilitated over $200,000 in down payment assistance grants to income eligible borrowers in the Corridor so far this year! These grants (from local, state, and federal programs) can help prospective buyers close financing gaps and make their homeownership dream a reality.

6 A Real Life Spider-Man? In Spider-Man (2002), Tobey Maguire’s titular character catches his love interest Mary Jane along with her lunch after she slips and falls in a cafeteria, tossing her entire tray of food into the air. Impressively, the shot was filmed with no CGI: Maguire required 156 takes to catch all the falling items on the tray one by one – and one-handed!
Le quatorze Juillet
Merci beaucoup to Nick Kemp and Matt Brunner, members of our networking team, who took a field trip to check out the Hills Bank servers in Marion on Sunday, July 14th. They celebrated Bastille Day at the server farm, all while they coordinated and performed a day- long maintenance event. Due to their excellent planning and execution, no one noticed their hard work (or their berets). Hourra!
Note of Thanks
My niece loved the penny press, something her mom and I have done all over the country when we took family trips as kids. Always had to stop in and get as many shine pennies as we could before our trips.
Thank you,
-Joshua
More Than Just a Web Shooter Along with his super-strong spider web, Spider-Man can also jump about 50 feet high and run up to 200 miles per hour.
