HISTORY OF REEDLEY COLLEGE

Reedley College was established in May 1926, as Reedley Junior College. Institutional doors were opened in September 1926 with a total of 30 students and six course offerings. In 1936 a separate building on the Reedley High School campus was built to house the junior college administration and provide additional classrooms. On July 1, 1946, the college recognized its role as a total community college. By the late 1940s the governing board decided the time was right for the college to develop a separate campus and a separate identity. Thus, the board began negotiations to purchase the current campus site at Reed and Manning Avenues, once part of the historic Thomas Law Reed Ranch. In September 1956, the college moved to its present site, where it has continued to grow and expand. In 1963 the college became a member of the State Center Community College District combining the resources of two of the oldest community colleges in the state. In its almost 100 year history, Reedley College has developed into an essential component of higher education in the central San Joaquin Valley. The campus serves approximately 17,495 students and offers instructional opportunities that range from traditional classrooms and science laboratories to state-of-the-art occupational training facilities in day, evening, early morning, online and interactive distance education formats. The college’s location near mountains and farmland permits the natural surroundings to become part of the learning environment. Forestry students manage an 800-acre forest at Sequoia Lake, near Kings Canyon National Park, one hour from Reedley. Agriculture students gain experience on the campus’ 300-acre farm, the largest on-campus community college farm in the state. In 2024, the college opened a flight school at the Reedley Municipal Airport. Reedley College is also one of only 11 community colleges in California to provide on-campus housing. The Reedley campus offers students a choice of transfer, Associate Degrees, Associate Degrees for Transfer, Certificates of Achievement, and Certificates.

REEDLEY COLLEGE

CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! It is an honor to celebrate you today on your graduation from Reedley College. Your journey to this moment is shaped by the kind of determination that doesn’t quit, and the strength that keeps going even when the road gets hard. Today is about your achievement, recognizing your resilience, your courage, and the belief you held onto when things weren’t easy. Earning a college degree is no small feat, and I am deeply proud of each one of you. As Chancellor of the State Center Community College District, I have the privilege of witnessing how education transforms lives, and your story is a powerful reminder of that truth. Carry with you the knowledge, courage, and compassion you’ve gained here.

Dr. Carole Goldsmith Chancellor, State Center Community College District

Commencement means beginning, and whether you’re entering a new career, transferring to a university, or chasing a dream still taking shape, this is just the start of something great. Your education opened a door, and now the path ahead is yours to walk. As you move forward, stay curious. Lifelong learning is not just about degrees or certificates. It is a decision to always grow, explore, and understand the world and your place in it. Take a moment to reflect on the people who helped you reach this day: those who encouraged you, challenged you, and stood by your side. Their belief in you mattered. Someday you’ll have the chance to be that person for someone else and to pay it forward and light the way for another learner. Your story can be the spark that changes a life. Reedley College has given you a strong foundation and is about to celebrate 100 years of opening doors, changing lives, and strengthening community. You are graduating at a historic moment, and you are part of a legacy that stretches back a century and reaches far into the future. Now go forward and build on that foundation. Make your mark, strengthen your family and your community, and use what you’ve learned to make the world a little brighter. We are so proud of you. You are now and always a part of this college family. Congratulations, Reedley College Tigers! Wishing you a future full of purpose, opportunity, and joy.

REEDLEY COLLEGE

98TH COMMENCEMENT

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Welcome to Reedley College’s 98th commencement, recognizing the dedication and hard work of our graduating class of 2026. Commencement is a graduation ceremony that has centuries-old traditions across the history of higher education, such as the regalia that is worn by graduating students, faculty, staff, and administration. The robes, hoods and caps (mortarboard or tam) use size, shape and colors to identify those that have earned an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, as well as the institution where their degree was earned. Please see Dr. Jerry L. Buckley the information provided later in this document to President, identify the regalia of our platform party and our Reedley College graduating students. Our students’ journeys to reach today’s commencement are much different than 100 years ago here at Reedley College. Today we offer our students seven different pathways that lead to specific careers, guided by counselors, instructors and other professionals. We also support our students’ basic needs and provide other wrap-around services so that they may focus on their studies and reach their educational goals. It’s also important to note that we have industry partners that contribute to our students’ success each year by participating on our Foundation boards, helping fund improvements to our facilities, or by providing internships and apprenticeships that allow students to translate the theory of our classrooms into practical applications in the workplace. Each of these gifts from our industry partners contribute to our students’ ability to reach their educational goals. Commencement is therefore a moment in time that commemorates change. The change that we celebrate for our students is one that either marks their transition to a career, or a transition to a senior institution, like Fresno State, to continue their education before they pursue their career. Some of these transitions include our dual enrolled high school students, including students that attend our Reedley Middle College High School and the Parlier Early College programs. We therefore recognize and celebrate all our students who have achieved an educational milestone today. To our students - Regardless of your age, academic focus or career choice, each of you have made sacrifices to earn your certificate or degree. Life is not always easy, nor are the responsibilities that come along with those lives, but choosing education is always an important step, whether to improve your understanding of the world around you, increase your appreciation of literature and the arts, or to develop new or improved skills for a job or career. One suggestion… Realize that your education will never really be complete, especially in today’s rapidly changing world with advances in technology such as artificial intelligence. Education has become an opportunity that you use to stay informed and achieve new skills to remain competitive in our worldwide economy. Congratulations to our graduates!

REEDLEY COLLEGE

¡Felicidades a nuestros graduados!

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS: LORENZO RIOS Lorenzo Rios is proud to be a graduate of Reedley College, where he earned his degree in Flight Science. Today, he is a captain flying the Embraer 135, 140, and 145, with over 4,000 hours of flight time and more than 3,000 as Pilot in Command. His journey started as a flight instructor, where he had the privilege of training and mentoring new pilots. That experience taught him early on that aviation isn’t just about flying—it’s about discipline, accountability, and showing up prepared every single day.

Lorenzo Rios Class of 2020

Now, as a captain, Lorenzo is responsible for the safety of the aircraft, his crew, and every passenger on board. It’s a role that demands constant growth, adaptability, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.

Being asked to speak here today means a lot to him, because Reedley College is where this path really began. It gave him the foundation to step into this industry with confidence, and it’s a place that continues to be part of his story.
