GLOBAL PAYROLL MAGAZINE

Many articles have been written about getting payroll a seat at the table with C-suite members during the last four years. If anyone has really been paying attention, they may have recognized that the best C-suites have already started including payroll on the email “CC” line voluntarily for matters that they believe may have potential consequences on employee or employer tax liabilities. It has also been more common for the legal department to collaborate with payrollers to ensure a full understanding of what is compliance and how to maintain it once achieved. Perhaps, instead of demanding that we, as payroll professionals, be listened to when we believe we have something important and meaningful to teach the leadership, the moment should be surrendered to remaining silent and listening carefully to what it is that is being asked of us. We have proven our value over the past four years and that we can handle anything the universe throws at us, even if we weren’t deemed “essential” in most countries. Take pride in the fact that when there were monies to be shared with the employee population, during a time of uncertainty about how much the paychecks were going to be as well as when they were going to happen, payrollers made that happen. When there were tax credits to be offered
by governments to corporations to help offset losses, payrollers made that happen. When it was time to get back to business as usual, which actually meant reinventing the entire payroll processes and procedures to allow for remote work, payrollers made that happen. I am so very extremely proud to say that I am a payroller… a self-professed certified payroll nerd… and I am even more proud to say that I am a member of the global payroller community, without which, the last four years would have been absolutely unbearable.
