NSLHD Quality & Improvement Awards

Congratulations to the NSLHD Eating Disorder Service for their impactful initiative supporting parents of children with Anorexia Nervosa during inpatient care. They have worked tirelessly to strengthen family readiness, improve understanding, and empower recovery beyond discharge. Congratulations to the Excellence in the Provision of Mental Health Services Award RUNNER - UP: NSLHD Eating Disorder Service, MHDA – Transitioning from Paediatric Inpatient to Outpatient Care for Anorexia Nervosa: A Brief Intervention

Children and adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa are often discharged into outpatient Family Based Therapy (FBT), but some parents feel unprepared to take over care of their child ’ s illness.

To address this, Clinical Psychologists at NSLHD Eat- ing Disorder Service developed a structured, three - session intervention for parents during their child ’ s inpatient stay aimed at building understanding, confidence, and readiness for managing the illness post - discharge.

Parent feedback showed:

• Improved understanding of the eating disorder. • Greater sense of control. • Increased preparedness to support recovery at home.
