“ GOD IS DEAD He Forgot Us Long Ago,”

seph could never have done it. “He that believeth on me,” said the One who is the Bread and Water of life, “ from within him shall flow rivers of living water.” Does every one who ever turns to you for anything always and only find Christ awaiting him? What a ministering life we may live!— Messages for the Morning Watch. January 22— “ The trial o f your faith being much more precious than o f gold” (1 Pet. 1:6-9). When “tested faith” comes out of the fire, with all the dross removed, it is very choice and valuable, much more than gold. That perishes eventually; faith re mains. Like “strong faith” it has to suf fer, before it can get stronger or precious. When anything has caused the worker much trouble, it becomes valuable. The diamond in the rough has no beauty, but the merchant understands how precious it will become after it has been cut, and its value is in the cutting more than' the stone itself. So all God’s people are tried by the fire o f suffering in one shape or another. His hand does not afflict for affliction’s sake, but to get at their worth, or bring their real»value to the front. “Her light was like to a stone most pre cious.” The man at the furnace puts the gold in until his face can be seen in it. So God puts His children in His fur nace until they reflect His Son. “The husbandman waiteth for this precious fruit,” the outcome of His labor, “ Be loved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you.” So, “let them who suffer, according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing as unto a faithful creator.” “Precious more than gold that passeth, is the trial of your faith; For tears of anguish or temptation shall not dim it, shall not scathe. Your Refiner sitteth watching till His image shineth clear, For His glory, praise and honor, when the Saviour shall appear.” —o— January 23— “ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children’’ (Eph. 5:1). Oh, when shall we learn the sweet trust in God that our little children teach us every day by their confiding faith in us? We who are so mutable, so faulty, so ir ritable, so unjust; and He who is so watchful, so pitiful, so loving, so for giving. Why cannot we, slipping our hand in His each day, walk trustingly over that day’s appointed path, thorny or flowery, crooked or straight, kilowing that evening will bring us sleep, peace and ho me?—■Phillips Brooks. —o— January 24—“Let him ask in faith” (Jas. 1:6). : Many are the prayers which ascend from God’s ipeople, but not one half of them believe that they will be answered. It is a kind o f comfort to go and pour out our hearts, with their sorrows and troubles, into the “ears of the Lord of sabaoth” ; but the prayers return into our own . bosom, and the burdens in tended to be left at the feet o f the Great Burden Bearer, are sought for and car ried back into lives that are already crushed and broken, either by personal
