Homeschool

Here’s what you need to know about the Homeschool Laws in Indiana:

• Indiana Code defines a home school as a nonpublic non-accredited school. • The Indiana Department of Education doesn’t endorse or review any homeschool programs. • Compulsory school age is 7-17 years of age or when the student graduates. • Parents should provide 180 days of instruction in an academic year, which runs from July 1, of a given year through June 30, of the following year. • Parents must keep track of their child’s attendance. • Provide an equivalent education. • Instruction must be done in the English language. Testing In Indiana, homeschooled families are NOT required to test. Many families, however, find testing to be beneficial. IAHE is happy to partner with BJU Press Testing and Evaluation to offer the Iowa Assessments from home. When you test with IAHE & BJU, the IAHE will receive a group report (based on ANONYMOUS student data), allowing us to showcase to legislators the success of home-educated students. NEW for 2022! • Choose between Online Testing OR Paper/Pencil Testing. • Families that order their tests through IAHE’s Parent Portal will receive a 10% discount. • The opportunity to participate in a multi-state pilot testing initiative.

Support Groups • Homeschool Hangout

Not only a support group for parents but a meeting place for kids. They will have field trip days, play days, and of course they will have online events. Parents and kids can post questions concerning homeschool, whether that be help with a lesson or home work. • Hoosier Homeschool Network (HHN) A homeschool support group open to homeschoolers in the Southern Indiana counties. They welcome families from all faiths and all educational methods. They desire to be a group that brings homeschooling families of different backgrounds, beliefs, and areas together where they can interact with other homeschooling families.
