plasma-rich sample is then injected into the patient’s skin using microneedling. The treatment is fairly quick, and because we use microneedling, there is little discomfort. Plus, it causes less trauma to the skin than other fillers. Treatment Details While almost anyone can benefit from microneedling with PRP, it can be especially helpful for treating: • Wrinkles • Acne scars • Age spots • Certain types of hyperpigmentation • Stretch marks • Hair loss Most people will benefit from 3–6 sessions of microneedling with PRP, done about once every four weeks. A series of treatments is required to see results. Because the skin needs at least 28 days to regenerate, most people won’t see results after just one treatment. The timing will depend on you, and we’ll help you figure out the right amount of treatment to get your desired look! Even More Benefits Microneedling makes the perfect foundation for a combination therapy, including injecting PRP and dermal fillers like Voluma. We’ll help you determine which treatments can get you the best results! As always, you should only seek microneedling with PRP from a licensed professional. I have been licensed by the Cellular Medicine Association to perform this treatment, so you are in good hands! If you are looking for amazing results without surgery, I recommend microneedling with PRP. Talk to us about your options, and we’ll help you reveal la belleza in you!
At Beautique, we are passionate about using the best in science and art to enhance natural beauty. It comes down to the tiniest details. Your skin is made up of proteins, including collagen and elastin, that contribute to its fullness and elasticity. But as you age, cell production slows. Less collagen leaves the skin looking less full and without the same vivacity it used to display. By one estimate, a newborn produces one new stem cell for every 10,000 cells. By age 40, that production has slowed to one for every 40,000 cells. That’s why our treatments call on the body’s own healing process to stimulate collagen and slow and reverse the signs of aging. Without the need for invasive surgery, we can use the body’s own mechanisms to rejuvenate the skin. One of these transformative treatments is microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling While microneedling isn’t new, technological advancements have made it more effective and virtually painless. Using an advanced microneedling technique, we stimulate collagen growth by making tiny injections — so miniscule that patients barely feel the prick — and thereby encourage skin cells to “awaken.” Microneedling allows us to do something else pretty amazing: As we perform the treatment, we can apply certain rejuvenating chemicals and vitamins to the skin to promote additional growth and rejuvenation. The process makes the skin look cosmetically fresher, and it’s a safe and effective technique that marries the best of science and beauty technology. PRP and Microneedling Microneedling is foundational to PRP (sometimes called a vampire facial), where we use a patient’s own plasma to strengthen the skin and advance their health. With PRP, we start by taking a blood sample from the patient and placing it in a centrifuge, where plasma is separated from red blood cells. “I really enjoy going to the spa. This is my third visit there, and my experience every time I go is great. Your employee Veronica is awesome. She explains the procedure she is about to perform before she begins. I ask questions about other procedures I am interested in, and she explains those to me, as well, and shows me brochures. Her communication with me is helpful, and I recommended her to my sister. She makes you feel comfortable. The spa is always clean, and the atmosphere is comfortable, as well. The women employees are very friendly and very knowledgeable. I really enjoy going there and will continue to visit the spa. Thank you.” – Anonymous Have you enjoyed a similar experience at Beautique? Your Diet’s High-Tech Helper Unique Food Tracking Apps to Check Out in 2020
If you’re the type to make New Year’s resolutions, then there’s a good chance health and fitness goals are among your targets for 2020. According to the New York Post, more than 55% of News Year’s resolutions made by Americans in 2018 were health-related, covering topics like exercising more, losing weight, and eating more nutritious foods. It’s easy to set resolutions, but it’s much harder to keep them. Luckily, we live in an age where high-tech tools are at our fingertips. Having a diet and exercise assistant in your pocket (literally) in the form of a smartphone app can do wonders for staying on track, and these days your options go far beyond one- size-fits-all calorie counters like MyFitnessPal. Here are two apps to check out if you’re hoping to discover a new you this new year. My Macros+ Developed by weightlifters, this app is tailor-made for people who have serious fitness goals and want to track their macronutrients (macros) — carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. With more than 1.5 million food items to choose from, a weight-tracking component, and more, My Macros+ covers all your bases. Reviewers rave about the app’s flexible goal-setting feature, which allows for intermittent fasting, calorie/carbohydrate cycling, and meal plans that include 6–8 meals per day. Ate Ate bills itself as a “visual, mindful, and non-judgmental” food tracking app. Unlike most options on the market, Ate focuses on feelings rather than numbers. Instead of counting calories, its users snap photos of their meals and input why they ate — whether they were hungry, stressed, or socializing — and how the meal made them feel. It’s an ideal strategy for those worried that too much data could trigger an obsession or disordered eating. Once you find a food tracking app you like, try pairing it with other tools that can help you meet your goals. Whether you need help shopping for healthier foods, making smart choices when eating out, or finding nutritious recipes with ingredients you have at home, there’s an app for that. Just pull up your phone’s app store and start searching!

Yet Another Benefit of PRP A Natural Approach to Hair Restoration
No one wants to rely on medication to live the best and happiest life, and it shouldn’t be a necessity. Thankfully, everyone can
to stimulate natural hair growth for a thicker, fuller head of hair. Treatments require several visits, typically three treatments about 4–6 weeks apart, spanning anywhere from 3–6 months. As Dr. Sanchez mentions in the cover story, the first step of PRP is a blood draw, usually from the arm. Once drawn, your blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the three layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells. The platelet-rich plasma is isolated, bottled, and carefully injected into several areas of the scalp where the hair is the thinnest. While many people might shy away from having their blood drawn, they can rest assured knowing PRP is beneficial for more than hair regrowth. And since PRP uses your own plasma, you aren’t at risk for diseases or side effects from the use of blood in the treatment. Beautique Medical Spa offers PRP to any of our patients who are tired of suffering from hair loss. Millions of Americans struggle with hair loss and use hundreds of hair loss products in the hopes of regaining what
time has taken. However, did you know there is a method to boost hair growth without the use of oils, shampoos, or medications? If you read Dr. Sanchez’ story from Page 1, you already know its name! Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a type of regenerative treatment that can also use plasma to generate hair growth. It’s a three-step process that aims to give hair follicles an increased supply of PRP

The Beauties Behind Melt Cosmetics
What It Means to Be La Jefa
Starting out as coworkers at Nordstrom’s makeup counter, Lora Arellano and Dana Bomar became fast friends after bonding over their love of vibrant lipsticks and strong shades. In 2012, they took that shared passion to the next level when they started Melt Cosmetics, a brand of eye-catching, innovative products that launched with a line of five bold, ultra-matte lipstick shades.
Of course, it didn’t all happen overnight. Lora and Dana kept their day jobs, saved, created, and tested until they found formulas that were up to their standards. They developed makeup tutorials that took off on social media and built an excited fan base — and eventually landed Lora a gig as Rihanna’s makeup artist. Initially, makeup labs didn’t take Lora and Dana seriously. At the time, their vision for ultra-matte, bold lipsticks didn’t exist on the market, making it risky in the eyes of some, but the two entrepreneurs knew their perfect opportunity would be a hit. Even after getting turned down, the pair persevered, knowing they had an idea worth pursuing. “We had a really strong vision, and we wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before!” Dana said. It took a year to launch Melt’s first line of lipsticks, but when it launched, the lipsticks sold out within minutes, due in large part to the cult following Dana and Lora cultivated on social media. These days, Melt Cosmetics is one of the most successful independent makeup companies out there, empowering women to enhance their beauty with bold and innovative products. None of that would be possible without the two strong, pioneering Latinas at its helm. They are a stunning example of what it means to be La Jefa.
