BUSY DAYS AND A BRIGHT FUTURE Full Steam Ahead

I’ve never been satisfied with “good enough.”

Things have been crazy busy at the office this summer. We did a few on-site visits, which led to a huge influx of referrals. For three weeks in a row, we broke our personal record for the highest number of visits in a single week. It’s been awesome. As a business owner, this is exactly the kind of thing you want to see happen, especially at the start of summer, which is usually the “slow season.” That said, if we want to ride this momentum, the team needs to charge full steam ahead. It’s no surprise that our schedule has been a little tight. Right now we’re at capacity, both time-wise and space-wise. In order to properly treat all our current and new clients, we need to bring in another physical therapist. However, it’s going to take more than just conducting some interviews. We need to make sure we have room for a new therapist and patients to stretch out, literally. The good news is, we’ve been preparing for this for a long time. We have plenty of space at our current office to accommodate our future needs; we just need to make that space usable. We need to knock down a wall, do some painting, and put in new carpet and ceiling tiles. This sounds like a lot, but I anticipate that we’ll be able to finish this project sooner rather than later. Once we bridge this gap and make it nice, we can hit the ground running. There’s a reason this step has taken us a little extra time to accomplish. I’ve never been satisfied with “good enough.” When new patients walk through the door, I want them to be wowed. People always talk about state-of-the-art facilities, and that’s what I want to offer at Horizon PT. I want to have new gadgets, quality

equipment, and the latest technology. I’ve even been looking at how we might be able to install a pool and offer water workouts to patients struggling with muscle strength. That might not be something you see anytime soon, but it’s my long-term goal. I want patients to come to us because they know we have the resources they need to get better. It can be scary to walk into a new place because you’re hurting and looking for help. I believe Horizon PT can be the kind of place you walk into and know without a doubt that you’ve come to the right place. I want to thank all our patients who have referred friends and family members to us recently, as well as all our new patients who have given us their trust. My dream for Horizon PT is to build a place that really helps the community. These last few weeks have shown me we’re on the right track.

UNLIKELY PRO ATHLETES WHO BEAT THE ODDS

Sometimes All It Takes Is the Power of Will

numbered, fate pitted him against heavyweight Bill Brennan. Despite his doctor’s orders, and despite facing a much larger opponent while he was literally at death’s door, Miske shocked the world by knocking Brennan out and delivering the dream Christmas that he’d promised his children in the process. He died a few days later, immortalized by his fighting spirit and refusal to quit. JIMABBOTT: NEVERNEEDEDAHAND After being born without a right hand, the odds of Jim Abbott playing baseball in any capacity seemed slim, but Jim Abbott didn’t care about the odds. After developing a one-of-a-kind fielding routine where he would switch his glove from his shorter arm to his dominant one, Abbott took his talents all the way to the major leagues. Fans around the world watched as he turned his disability into a 10-year MLB career that included throwing a no-hitter in 1993 against the New York Yankees, which was one of the most remarkable accomplishments in baseball. Sometimes the sky isn’t enough. Ultimately, the only limits that hold you back are the ones you set for yourself.

The life of a professional athlete can seem like all glitz and glamour, shaking hands, kissing babies, and occasionally performing in the spotlight under a little bit of pressure. But for every athlete you see on your television screen, there are actually hundreds more in the minor leagues fighting against all odds to make it to the big stage. And some of those athletes have disadvantages that mean they have to work twice as hard just to get the same respect as those who’ve had an easier road. These professionals prove that sometimes all it takes to see your dreams come true is an ability to block out the noise, put your head down, and keep your disabilities from holding you back. Here are two athletes who did just that. BILLYMISKE: FIGHTING FORHIS LIFE Boxing is a sport of extreme violence and diligent strategy. To be a winner, you must be smart and physically capable. For a while, Billy Miske was both of those things —until he was diagnosed with the life-threatening Bright’s disease that severely affected his kidneys. Already considered a bit of an underdog, he chose to keep fighting to pay off his increasing medical debts and give his family a shot at a better life. As his disease progressed and he realized his days were

A Pain-Free Tomorrow OUR PAT I ENTS SAY I T BEST

“I came into Horizon Physical Therapy feeling like there was no hope. I was really in pain, and that’s how I truly felt. After 12 weeks of physical therapy, I feel wonderful, and I have my life back. I even wanted to cancel my last two appointments — that’s how great I felt. I would recommend Horizon to anyone who feels like their pain is unbearable. I would like to thank Dr. Adams and his team. They treat you like family.”

“For me, in the beginning, physical therapy was difficult, and I felt unsure of Horizon’s ability to make me whole again. But they proved me wrong. I recently told Dr. Adams that I feel brand new and would do a commercial for Horizon for free! In all seriousness, they are awesome, and I highly recommend them.”
