June 2022 TPT Member Magazine

A NOTE FROM SYLVIA

At Twin Cities PBS, education is a priority. In fact, the pursuit of learning is something many TPT staff, including myself, consider essential for our day- to-day lives. I also know members like you value the educational resources TPT makes available to our community through engaging programs that spark curiosity in history, arts and culture, public and civic affairs, science and more. One educational offering of which I am most proud is TPT Learn, a strategic, multi-faceted, statewide initiative developed with and for educators and community stakeholders to provide community-centered, sustainable, and engaging resources for pre-K-12 teachers and students. If you haven’t already, check out the PBS Learning Media Hub that provides free classroom-targeted digital resources at tpt.pbslearningmedia.org . We are also thrilled with the reach and impact of our national children’s series SciGirls and Hero Elementary , available around the country on PBS Kids, and locally on TPT 2 and TPT Kids. In 2023, we look forward to sharing Mashopolis , a new TPT children’s series for PBS Kids, which focuses on developing executive functioning skills. Learn more about TPT Learn on pages 20-21. This month we celebrate Juneteenth on June 19, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Tune in to TPT 2 at 12:30 pm to view TPT’s own Stage: Celebrating Black Artists , and check out more Juneteenth programming on page 17. June is also Pride month and as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, TPT offers programs such as Out North (free to watch online at tpt.org/out-north ), which celebrates the strides Minnesota has made since the gay liberation movement began in the 1970s. For more Pride programming, please see page 8. Finally, I want to take a moment to note our cover this month. We are excited to present The Great American Recipe, a PBS series featuring 10 talented home cooks as they showcase signature dishes, share heartfelt stories and compete to win the national search for the greatest family recipe in the United States. We’ve even heard it might just feature a contestant from our hometown! Catch the first episode on June 24 at 8 pm on TPT 2.

Until next time!

Sincerely, Sylvia Strobel President and CEO, Twin Cities PBS
