WORKING WOMEN IN SAUDI ARABIA
Historically Saudi Arabia has seen a low level of female participation in the workforce. However, reforms in the last decade, such as the right to vote, right to drive and change in guardianship rules, have considerably impacted women’s access to work.
64% The share of Saudi women in the labour market expanded by an incredible 64% in just two years.
37% The numbers are increasing steadily and the workforce now stands at 37% female.
For non-Saudi women considering a career move to Saudi Arabia, there is an active drive to increase female representation working on these giga-projects. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 outlined plans to increase the female labour force participation rate to over 30%. This goal was achieved in 10 years, and we’re seeing the female share in the giga- project workforce continue to go from strength to strength.
Living arrangements whilst working on giga-projects can differ widely depending on the project you are working on. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS Sites on more developed projects or near developed cities may offer a compound living option. These are secure gated communities with a variety of amenities on site. They often include swimming pools, fitness centres, convenience stores, coffee shops and preschools.
Remote sites will initially offer more basic accommodation and may not be able to house families.
The housing options will differ from project to project and depend on availability.
HOLIDAY OPTIONS
There are nine national holidays in Saudi Arabia, each ranging from one to four days leave. Combined with annual leave, which can vary from 22 – 40 days, and expats have both the luxuries of time and proximity to explore the world .
