BUT A BEST FRIEND HELPED YOU WRITE THEM A GOOD FRIEND WILL KNOW ALL OF YOUR STORIES
J une 8 has always been a special day for me — it’s my birthday! It’s always fun to think about who else celebrates their special day on the day you were born, historical events that took place on that day, or even those corny but fun “national
holidays” that happen to fall on the same day. Did you know that I share my birthday with Kayne West and Barbara Bush? June 8 is also National Farm Workers Day, World Oceans Day, National Upsy Daisy Day, and National Best Friends Day. I love sharing my birthday with the day we celebrate our closest friendships. My friends have been my anchors throughout my life. Together, we’ve grown, laughed, cried, and shared some of the greatest moments and adventures. I feel extremely fortunate to still have

the hill, and either Marlene or Melissa would have to pop the clutch to get it running.
Today, I keep in touch with my best friends, and we all pick up exactly where we left off. Thanks to Zoom (a tradition that came from quarantine), we are able to see each other’s faces virtually at least once a week, and we get to see each other in person about once or twice a year when I go back home to visit my parents. Just a few years ago, we celebrated our 50th birthdays in Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout life and in my friendships with Kelly, Marlene, and Melissa, I’ve come to know that there will always be “friends” who will celebrate with you and cheer you on, but your real friends are those who stick around in the good and the bad, accept you for who you are, will call you out when you are wrong, and broaden your world while exposing you to new experiences. They teach you that joy is better when it’s shared.
However, I don’t let the Miracle Whip deceive you — Kelly’s family was like a second family to me. I went on more camping trips than I can remember with them. We’d go for two weeks at a time, and it was always such an amazing experience. One of
my fondest memories is canoeing down the Saco River in Maine and trying clams for the first time. Adventuring with Kelly was always a blast, since my mom felt that “roughing it” was staying in a hotel without room service. In my middle and high school years, two of my other best friends were identical twins — Marlene and Melissa. Once we were able to drive, we’d all head to Hampton Beach for the day or spend hours shopping at the mall. It was great being able to drive around, but the first car that Marlene and Melissa shared was so old that to get it started, we’d sometimes have to push it down
strong relationships with all of my friends I grew up with — it’s been a wild, yet rewarding, ride having the opportunity to watch each other grow, find careers, get married, and build families. Growing up, Kelly was my very best friend — we did everything together in our small town in New Hampshire. Throughout the summer, we were always inseparable. You could find us on any given day at my house, swimming in the pool from sunrise to sunset, only getting out to make tuna fish sandwiches. In Kelly’s eyes, my house was the place to be because we always had

MONKEY AROUND THIS SUMMER CHECK OUT SOME OF AMERICA’S BEST ZOOS
The Bronx Zoo You don’t usually think about seeing exotic animals when you visit New York City, but the Bronx Zoo is one of the best places to view animals in America. Opened in 1899, the Bronx Zoo is responsible for many of the advancements relating to animal captivity. This was one of the first zoos to ditch cages for natural environments and create an animal hospital. With over 6,000 species, there’s an animal for everyone at the Bronx Zoo.
Summer is one of the best times of the year to travel. Kids are out of school and want to do something fun every weekend, which can be difficult to accommodate if you’ve already exhausted your local options. If you’re looking to travel, you can visit a beach, take in the sights and sounds of an amusement park, or spend some time with animals while visiting a zoo. Nearly every state in our country has a handful of zoos or aquariums, but some stand above the rest.
The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens While the San Diego Zoo is often boasted as California’s largest and best zoo, another zoo is worth checking out. The Living Desert
Here are three of the best zoos you can visit in the U.S.
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, is consistently ranked as one of the top five zoos in the world. It prides itself on hosting rare, endangered animals you can’t see elsewhere. It has the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit, and one of the major highlights is the Desert Dome, an 84,000-square-foot indoor desert that maintains an authentic desert ecosystem. This is a must-visit for any animal lover in your family.
Zoo and Gardens outside Palm Springs has entertained visitors for decades. There are events at this zoo every day, one of the most popular being the keeper connections and animal encounters, where you get up close and personal with the animals while learning more about their habitats and lifestyles.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING
“Before I came here, I had pulled my left groin, which stopped me from finishing my soccer season as well as half my high school season. I wasn’t able to practice, and it bothered me to even lunge or do simple stretches. After sessions of physical therapy, I can now complete my soccer season, play games, and do everything I could’ve before. After six months, I am now happy, healthy, and back to normal!” –Aiya D.

NONCOMPETITIVE KIDS CAN STILL BE SPORTY!
LESS INTIMIDATING AND JUST AS REWARDING
Martial Arts Martial arts, such as karate and taekwondo, help kids improve their self-confidence and achieve personal goals. Martial arts can help your children develop their focus and concentration while practicing self-defense skills. Some other martial arts styles your child might enjoy include kung fu, jiujitsu, capoeira, judo, and aikido. Swimming For kids who love diving into the water, swimming should be a sport to try. Like the rest of the listed individualized sports, the choice of joining competitions or a team is entirely up to your child. As they progress in their swimming journey, they may decide to start participating in competitive swim meets at the local YWCA/YMCA.
Horseback Riding This equestrian sport is perfect if your kid loves animals! While it may be more pricey, many equestrian centers offer discounts or even free lessons in exchange for stable work. Your child may thoroughly enjoy caring for the horses when working in the stables, and in return, they can also take horseback riding lessons. Rock Climbing Climbing, which debuted as a sport in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, can be done indoors or outdoors. Many rock climbing studios offer lessons for kids and ensure sufficient safety regulations. Rock climbing can lead to a lifelong passion for the sport and opportunities to compete in various events if desired later.
While you may have enjoyed competitive sports as a child, that doesn’t necessarily mean your child will feel the same. Not every personality matches well with team sports and high-pressure competitive matches. Whether your child is shy or less competitive, there are still sports they can participate in and enjoy! Gymnastics Yes, gymnastics can be competitive (think Olympic intensity), but that doesn’t always have to be the case. Your kids can start gymnastics without having to compete. Beginning gymnastics often focuses on basic movements and stretches to gain flexibility. If your child develops a passion for the sport, they can choose to go competitive later at their own speed! THE ULTIMATE RUNNER’S GUIDE TO AVOIDING INJURIES
Statistics show that 1 in every 3 recreational runners will experience a running-related injury. However, there are some guidelines you can follow to help you avoid injury!
are the first point of contact. Thus, improving your balance, ankle stability, and foot/toe coordination will not only prevent foot and ankle injuries but also lessen the chances of leg, knee, and hip injuries. WEAR PROPER SHOES. When it comes down to it, the most important part of choosing the right running shoe is the comfortability for the runner. Unfortunately, there isn’t conclusive research to support prescribing a certain shoe to prevent running injuries. A FEW TIPS WHEN BUYING YOUR NEXT SHOE • Always invest in the current year’s shoes. When a shoe from a prior year has been sitting on the rack, the foam on the base of the shoe has already broken down some. • Try on shoes at the end of the day because this is when your foot will be largest. This will ensure a proper fit of the shoe. • Opt for the shoe that is comfortable for you. If it isn’t comfortable, you won’t wear it. It’s as simple as that.
AVOID OVERUSE AND OVERTRAINING. Almost every runner is guilty of overtraining, but whether you’re a new runner or returning after an injury, it is extremely important to take things slowly. Also, don’t forget to take rest days to allow your muscles the proper recovery time that they need. Carve out some time to rest, stretch, or even go for a jog or walk rather than a run. DO DYNAMIC WARMUPS AND STRETCHING COOLDOWNS. Research has proven that static stretching (long hold times) does not prevent injuries prior to running activities. Instead, runners should be engaging in dynamic warmups. This includes constant and continuous movements that warm up the muscles and get them ready for the upcoming run. When the run or workout is over, then static stretching is appropriate as the muscles cool down.
STRENGTHEN YOUR HIPS, KNEES, AND ANKLES. When we run, we land on one leg thousands of times over and over, which leads to an accumulation of stress on your legs, hips, core, and spine. To manage this stress, it is paramount to keep your hips, knees, and ankles strong to limit poor running mechanics and prevent injuries.
IMPROVE YOUR FOOT AND ANKLE CONTROL. When we run, our feet and
ankles, which work together to create a stable base for our legs,
