Strictly Solo Anguish etched on our faces, my rib driver and deck hand ‘Rupert’ prepare to intercept the NSCA Mini 3, only a last second hail of “don’t touch it” halting their e ff ort to grab the slippery blighter. I had lost sight of it about ten minutes earlier and now it was on 4% battery and about to ditch into Hayling Bay in only my second flight in anger. Hovering just four feet from the water’s surface, my driver had spotted it with eyes trained like a seasoned sniper before expertly guiding the 5 metre rib in for a rescue straight out of any blockbuster movie. The sensor had no time to respond to my outstretched hand as we were coming in too fast, even for DJI’s state of art tech. Lessons learned, I will be back.
