POWER THAT FITS YOUR NEEDS Pick the Perfect Power Solution

Make sure the generator you choose can handle both your current and expected power requirements.

1. Calculate Your Total Wattage – Add up the watts for every light, appliance, tool or other equipment you plan to run. Check each item's nameplate for its wattage. If the nameplate lists only amps and volts, use this simple formula: Amps x Volts = Watts (Example: 12.5 Amps x 120 Volts = 1500 Watts) 2. Convert Watts to Kilowatts – Need the rating in kilowatts? 1000 Watts = 1 Kilowatt (Example: 1500 Watts / 1000 = 1.5 kW) 3. Use the Charts for Easy Sizing – Charts 1, 2 and 3: Help you select the right generator size. If only horsepower is listed, see Chart 3 for starting and running watts. 4. Choose the Right Extension Cord – When using extension cords, see Chart 4 for recommended insulated copper wire sizes. Always use outdoor-rated UL cable (recognized type SJTW-A).
