MOMENTS FROM THE NAVY SEAL LT MICHAEL P. MURPHY RUN On June 22nd, the staff from Professional Care Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation had the honor and privilege of participating in the annual Navy SEAL LT Michael P. Murphy Run around the Lake, a 4-mile run/walk, around Lake Ronkonkoma. More than 4,200 people gathered that day to race in honor of our local fallen hero, a Patchogue resident who lost his life in Afghanistan while serving our country. STAFF SPOTL I GHT Meet Dr. Johnny! Johnny Bonilla, PT, DPT
Dr. Johnny Bonilla, a native of Brentwood, New York, graduated from Ross Brentwood High school in 2011 where he played soccer, assisting his team to win the 2010 Class AA NY State Championship. Dr. Bonilla’s involvement in soccer, coupled with his interest in science inspired him to pursue a career in physical therapy. He attended The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where he graduated with honors and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences. Following graduation, Dr. Bonilla began work as an intern with Professional Care Physical Therapy to build his resume and further solidify his credentials for physical therapy school. CONGRATUL ATIONS TO OUR SCHOL ARSHIP WINNER! Congratulations to Ms. Dayna Torre, this year’s Professional Care PT Scholarship winner! Dayna, a 2019 graduate from Patchogue-Medford High School will be attending Montclair State University in the fall and has plans to pursue a career in the field of Physical Therapy. We wish her much success in her future endeavors!
University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program graduating in June 2019. There, Dr. Bonilla was awarded the Alan King Memorial award in recognition of students who demonstrate kindness, friendliness, perseverance, and professionalism. While working as a part-time aide at Professional Care PT, Dr. Bonilla completed his clinical rotations at New York Balance and Vestibular Physical Therapy, Sunshine Physical Therapy, and New York Physical Therapy and Wellness. In January of 2019, he attended the APTA Combined Sections Meeting in Washington DC where he was able to learn from world-renowned researchers and therapists such as Irene Davis, Mike Reinold, Kevin Wilk and many more. This opportunity further continued Dr. Bonilla’s interest to pursue a career in a general outpatient facility and work with patients of all ages and all various diagnoses within the Physical Therapy scope. In the near future, Dr. Bonilla hopes to further pursue his interest in vestibular therapy by attending courses. He also hopes to advocate for the profession in local high schools for students who are interested in the field and to work with local soccer teams to promote injury prevention and proper age-appropriate conditioning.
