At the time, I was solely focused on making the most money I could in my day job, cutting personal expenses to the bone, and finding deals as we were on a mission and nothing was going to stop us. Ex- cept something almost did! After six years of killing myself during the day, cutting back on extras, and looking for properties, I started to ask myself if the effort was worth it. This question bothered me for a while until I allowed my mindset
to shift. Up until this point I was focused on the money and the next deal. I realized that I needed to change, or I was in serious danger of burnout, which would have been a tragedy. Instead of focusing on the money I changed my focus to how many people I was helping or serving. Instead of beating on an excel spreadsheet all day I began to listen to sellers, realtors, agents, private money lenders, and property man- agers.
many trends come and go. I have seen markets soar to crazy heights, markets where real estate couldn’t be given away, and everything in between. The greatest and most powerful mindset shift for my real estate in- vesting business occurred at about year six. At that time, we had a nice little portfolio of 10-15 units, and they were cash flowing, but we were nowhere near our financial goals.
