Dear Colleagues,
As we enter the second half of 2022, it's time for us to reflect on our performance in the quarter gone by.
We welcomed all our guests warmly with our dedicated service attitude. Our guests were acknowledged and recognised by our colleagues with excellent co-ordination and the creation of opportunities throughout the complex. For the coming months, we should keep on with our continuous efforts to drive our business and increase our market share, including guest core touch points. I am sure we will pass this stage with flying colours as a team. During the same period, we also celebrated many engaging activities. In particular, I want to talk about the Colleague Appreciation Week which was full of fun with our colleagues celebrating the colourful joy of life at this event. Many Learning and Development programmes were conducted during this period as our key focus is to complete our essential, functional and leadership programmes before the end of the summer season. I would like to thank all the dedicated champions for driving the key learning initiatives, for which the goals, as result, are reachable already. We have, as a team, progressively improved our Guest Engagement Performance. However, our year-end goals are still far away - but not difficult to achieve if we collaborate and ensure our guests' needs and preferences are well taken care of. We also successfully rolled out the Long Stay Guest programme in June, both for guest centric areas and heart of the house activities. To highlight this point and to be specific, we have a strong focus on our guests staying more than 4 days in the complex. Post-Covid, many of you are planning for your holidays this summer and I wish you a great family reunion and a well-deserved break. Lastly, I would like to thank every colleague for their stellar contribution and I’m looking forward to creating more success stories together.

Cracking Laughs not Eggs
Easter is one big event for Christian colleagues to get together with family and friends to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Christians all over the world celebrate this Holy event by feasting and engaging in fun and homely Easter games and activities.
Our SLAD & THAD Colleagues celebrated this event by participating in an Easter Egg Hunt - a festival scavenger hunt to find hidden Easter eggs throughout our complex. It was indeed an activity that brought our colleagues to work in unity, they didn't forget to enjoy and have fun!!!
Ramadan is always a wonderful way of connecting with others and spending quality time with loved ones, particularly in the evenings around the dinner table. Grand Iftar 2022
We got together as one family for our Grand Iftar on Sunday, 24th April 2022. The spirit of giving can be felt all around among our colleagues. The evening was indeed an event well spend wishing good health and prosperity to our colleagues and their families this Ramadan.
Celebrating Motherhood
"Mother", your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend.
“On the occasion of Mother’s Day, we at Shangri -La & Traders Abu Dhabi hosted a special baby shower for five of our female colleagues who were preparing themselves for the beautiful milestone of their lives – Motherhood.” Our soon-to-be moms were pampered with a luxurious and relaxing date at Chi, The Spa, followed by a scrumptious spread of afternoon delicacies at our very own Lobby Lounge. It was an honour to host a day out for our ladies, giving them a break from their daily hustle. Shangri-La & Traders family is excited to meet the newest family members and we wish nothing but good health and abundant happiness throughout this beautiful life experience.
Celebrating Nationhood
"True Sportsmanship is about Never Giving Up"
A national day is a day on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a nation or state.
Sabin and Sandesh our dynamic Padel duo from the Sports & Recreation team, participated in the "Ramadan Padel Tournament 2022" organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism. The event took place in the beautiful court of Park Inn, Yas Island, on the 26th and 27th of April 2022.
On the occasion of the Ethiopian and Jordan Independence Days on 25 and 28 May 2022 respectively, a cake-cutting ceremony was held in the cafeteria and our colleagues

COLLEAGUES APPRECIATION WEEK
It's our culture to celebrate and appreciate everyone. The celebration was a way to thank our colleagues for the endless efforts they put into ensuring the flawless flow of operations at the Hotel. We had a series of exciting and fulfilling activities for our SLAD & THAD Colleagues. DAY 1 – Red Carpet Welcome - EXCOM and HODs welcomed our colleagues at the staff entrance along with coffee and freshly baked bread. Healthy Cooking Day – We had a live Master Chef cooking show on Facebook, hosted by our Executive Chef - Chef Nikolaos Tsimidakis and our colleagues joined the live show to learn the recipe. DAY 2 – Picnic Happy Hour - Special coffee break served in the colleagues' restaurant. Shangri- La’s signature tea was part of the Happy Hour to spread the word among colleagues who need to sell it to our guests during High Tea. Sleep Tight and Sweet Dreams – The ‘Sleep Tight and Sweet Dreams’ hamper was specially curated for our Night Shift Colleagues for being our ‘Knights in Shining Armour’. DAY 3 – The Icebreaker – We had team-building games held in our ballroom and our colleagues participated in the activities with joy and laughter. DAY 4 – Shangri- La’s Got Talent – Everyone is talented in something. Sometimes a stage is all that they need. We are proud to have such talented colleagues with us. DAY 5 – Iron Man and Iron Ladies - Colleagues enjoyed a relay of competitive activities – swimming, wheel pulling, and running that capped a day of fun activities with a picnic-style meal at the beach. Colleague Appreciation Week was full of fun and interactive activities, in which teamwork was encouraged and, in turn, enhanced employee camaraderie and productivity.

We COMPETE to WIN and OWN our SUCCESS
Our Culinary team represented Shangri-La in the EXPO Culinaire event held in ADNEC, Abu Dhabi which was attended by over 25 countries and more than 1000 participants.
We would like to congratulate our winners under the following categories:
Gold Medal with distinction – Ganis Kartika and Manoj Lasantha for a Wedding cake (Three Tier by Pristine) and Petites Four, Pralines by Master Baker. Gold Medal – Manoj Lasantha for Cake Decoration - Practical Class by Master Baker and Four Plates of Desserts, Powered by Ravi Fruit. Silver Medal – Yashen Udayanga for Bread Lovers & Showpiece by Master Baker.
In total, we won 5 medals.
A special shout-out to our Executive Pastry Chef Manoj Lasantha who won the BEST PASTRY CHEF AWARD, and for his guidance & support to our team during the competition.

Earth Day Beach Clean-up
The Great Global Cleanup was a worldwide campaign to remove billions of pieces of trash from neighborhoods, beaches, rivers, lakes, trails, and parks in the area — reducing waste and plastic pollution, improving habitats, and preventing harm to wildlife and humans.
In line with this year’s Earth Day theme - Invest in Our Planet , we got together for the Shangri-La and Traders Beach cleanup . We removed trash and plastics lying around the beach and public areas.
We are proud to be a part of the Global movement of creating awareness about protecting Mother Earth .

“He that plants trees loves others besides himself.” — Thomas Fuller- In line with this year’s Earth Day theme - Invest In Our Planet , we planted Citrus plants within our compound as another CSR initiative. We pledged to do our duty to protect and invest in Mother Earth as one family.
