It serves as “an extension of the physical exam” and is performed low impact with no shaving, and often in patients standing. The use of Global FAST® provides an unbiased set of imaging data points that helps avoid common image interpretation errors of “confirmation bias error” through selective imaging, and “satisfaction of search error.” The 4 introductory lectures in the general session are required to attend the lab. The attendee will learn image acquisition for AFAST®, TFAST® including echocardiography, and Vet BLUE®. This lab is for DVMs only and $375. Sponsors:

Enjoy a beautiful safari-like tour of the 1800 acre conservation breeding center while veterinarians engage you in exciting continuing education topics like: “How to kill haemonchus” (or more realistically, “Antelope blood transfusions”). And learn how Fossil Rim is involved with the conservation breeding, medicine and release to the wild of desert antelope (“Tales from Chad – scimitar-horned oryx reintroduction and dama gazelle capture”), Attwater’s prairie-chickens (“Tales from the Crypt-osporidium outbreak”), red wolves and Mexican wolves. You will also learn about capture and anesthesia in zoo species, from megavertabrates (“How to put shoes on a rhino”) to cheetah and black-footed cats (“We better dilute those cheetah drugs, because this cat weighs four pounds”). The open air bus tour is fun AND educational! Your guides: Julie Swenson, is boarded in zoological medicine and has been Fossil Rim’s Associate Vet since 2014; Holly Haefele has served as Director of Animal Health since 2006 and serves as AZA’s Cheetah SSP veterinary co-advisor. At the conclusion of this tour, box lunch is provided for the return trip. An evidence-based veterinary CPR guideline published by the RECOVER Initiative in 2012 aimed at determining how to maximize the chances of patient survival led to the official veterinary CPR certification process approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. This course will equip participants with concepts and techniques in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) reinforced through scenario-based simulations. The certification process consists of an online course provided by the RECOVER website that is completed and followed by onsite training at the conference. Successful completion of this course grants participants with certification as a RECOVER BLS Rescuer and a RECOVER ALS Rescuer. Human medical professionals certify in human CPR. Veterinary medical professionals should certify themselves in veterinary CPR! The cost for this lab is: DVMs $360 and Veterinary Technicians $300, this price includes a box lunch.
