The participant will have an understanding of basic light-tissue interaction and how PBM is dosed in order to achieve consistent results in deep tissue conditions. The participant will have an understanding of the best way to apply PBM for results in treating patients with OA and potentially other chronic deep tissue conditions, such as DM in their clinical practice. Learning Objectives: • The participant will have an understanding of basic light‑tissue interaction and how PBM is dosed in order to achieve consistent results in deep tissue conditions; • The participant will have an understanding of the best way to apply PBM for results in treating patients with OA and potentially other chronic deep tissue conditions, such as DM in their clinical practice. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM | BALLROOM B IDEXX – CLINICALLY CRISP, DOG TIRED Alyssa Mages, CVT We’ve all heard the terms burnout & compassion fatigue, but have we really talked about it? Navigating these waters is tricky and must be done mindfully as well as whole-istically; meaning the entire practice & ultimately the entire veterinary community must be involved. In this session we’ll be embracing the suck, getting comfortable with discomfort, and gaining a more in-depth understanding of what being crispy & tired means for ourselves and our profession & how we can work together to prevent it before it starts. Objectives: • Understand what burnout & compassion fatigue are; • How to recognize the tells – ours & our teammates; • What preventative & interventional measures can be taken; • How to make a plan to address both. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM | ROOM 203 B HELLO RACHE – WHAT THE WHAT?! MAKING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DERMATOPATHOLOGY REPORTS Matthew Carnett, DVM, DACVD We always hope that the biopsy is the “Golden Ticket” to figuring out those difficult dermatologic cases. We’ll take a step back and discuss some tips and tricks, as well as discuss a dermatologist’s approach to the skin biopsy. The goal is to help you avoid the following results: “The causes of these changes are not immediately apparent”. Many times, inconclusive results are completely avoidable by following a few basic steps and incorporating knowledge of histopathological patterns of disease. This discussion is geared toward the busy general practitioner, from the perspective of a veterinary dermatologist. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM | ROOM 203 C BASEPAWS – DEMYSTIFYING PET GENETICS: HOW EARLY DETECTION AND KNOWLEDGE OF RISK‑FACTORS ARE REVOLUTIONIZING PREVENTIVE CARE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE Ernie Ward, DVM, CVFT This session will discuss how innovation and research are changing the way veterinarians approach preventive care for their patients. Genetics play an important role in developing personalized care plans that allow individualized intervention and risk-mitigation ahead of clinical disease development. Early detection screening using genomic and oral microbiome profiling are powerful tools that can help veterinarians deliver exceptional individualized care, engage with their clients, build trust, and improve patient and practice health.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM | ROOM 104

COMPANION ANIMAL HEALTH – INCORPORATING LASER INTO GENERAL PRACTICE: INTEGRATION AND ROI Tannetje Crocker, DVM The evidence has shown Laser photobiomodulation (PBM, previously referred to as laser therapy) is effective. However, effective integration, marketing, and pricing for this therapy is needed in veterinary practices. Learning Objectives: The participants will be instructed on how to identify and market to clients who will utilize PBM. We will discuss using team members to promote and educate clients on the value of PBM. They will also get a foundation for pricing models used across other veterinary hospitals. The participant will leave with a better understanding of the ways to integrate PBM into daily practice by considering time, space, and staffing when implementing the technology.
