T hese are perilous days for this old world — however, for the one whose heart is resting in the Saviour’s love, they simply reveal the fact of the nearness of Christ’s coming. Kindly turn with me, for a few moments, to II Timothy 3:1-5, from which we have been discussing some of the moral signs which will be prev alent in the world at the time of the Lord’s return. To complete our review of this subject, let us lift out the re maining words as they fall in line in the list. In verse 4 we find the next word to be “traitors.” The word traitors could be translated “betrayer” or a treacherous person — one who lies, one who is two-faced. In these last days we see more of this characteristic of the treacherous in man. Continuing on in the fourth verse we arrive at the word “heady.” This term simply means reckless, headstrong, rash or uncon trolled. In illustration, some folk have fiery tempers and make no effort to control them — then comes the ex plosion. Gypsy Smith said “they are as a shotgun blast for when it is over only the pieces remain.” There is no peace with an explosive temper — only the pieces that remain! Moving to the 17th sign in this brief passage is the term “high-mind ed” or unwarranted self-importance and conceit. One such person stood at the window of a taxidermist shop, re marking so that those around could hear — he said if he could not do a better job of stuffing an owl than the work he was examining, he would quit. He held criticism for the rumpled feathers, the set of the eyes—nothing commended it. Just then the owl blinked his eyes and flew over to the other side of the window. The young man melted out of the midst of the onlookers. How unlike such lives is the perfect pattern we find in our Lord Jesus Christ, whose words were, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly of heart.” Christ humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the 32
