Revealing the Refreshed Visual Identity of IEA Studies

At this year’s IEA General Assembly, we’re proud to introduce the refreshed visual identity of IEA studies, a change that reflects the evolution of our studies since their inception. The updated look of the studies are not just a visual update but reflect the strategic transformation of TIMSS, PIRLS, ICCS, ICILS, and LaNA over time.
The main study logos are the primary emblems representing the study. They are designed for use in prominent and high-visibility applications to ensure a consistent and recognizable identity, such as publication covers, presentation title slides, printed banners, and so on.
For more than 60 years, IEA has been a leading figure in the field of comparative studies of education. The updated identity of each study exemplifies the innovation and excellence that form the foundation of our work, and reinforces IEA’s commitment and mission to improving quality teaching and learning worldwide. WHAT DO WE MEAN BY VISUAL IDENTITY? A study’s visual identity encompasses the various graphical elements, like logos, color palette, typography, and imagery, that represent and identify it. Nevertheless, the previous study logos and colors were developed at a time where the primary focus was on printed materials, and there was a clear need to bring the visual identity into the 21st century, both in terms of making the materials more suitable for a digital presence (e.g., different screen sizes), as well as to reflect the changing nature of the studies (from paper to digital assessments). Adapting to the digital age has been a primary focus of the visual identity refresh exercise, emphasizing scalability and responsiveness for optimal digital usage.

WHY DID WE REFRESH THE VISUAL IDENTITY OF IEA STUDIES? Many aspects of the previous study visual identities have worked extremely well and reflect the strong reputation of IEA studies. The intention with this exercise has been to build on that and to keep a thread between the previous study visual identities, hence the term “refreshed” study visual identity.
