DATA IN ACTION
are prepared to opt for STEM careers. ICCS data provides information on how future citizens feel about and engage with topics such as environmental sustainability, diversity, and global citizenship. Literacy as well as information literacy, measured by PIRLS and ICILS, respectively, are core building blocks toward informed and active students and citizens. In addition, the rich contextual data that is a part of every IEA study allows for exploration of how the contexts of education support students current and future growth, and how education systems can become more relevant, inclusive, and just. The conference is co-hosted by INVALSI, in partnership with Roma Tre University at the Department of Humanities of Roma Tre University, whose mission of promoting a culture of responsibility and social solidarity aligns perfectly with the mission of the IEA IRC.
The IRC in Rome will be an opportunity for all attending to gather, share, collaborate, and appreciate the ongoing efforts invested in developing IEA studies, improving analytical methods for analyzing data, and using study results to advance educational policies and classroom practices. It also offers a unique opportunity to feature and engage with the often unseen work of IEA experts. For example, members of IEA’s Technical Executive Group (TEG) will meet prior to the conference and engage with conference sessions. One of the three conference keynotes will be provided by TEG member Henry Braun, Boisi Professor of Education and Public Policy and Education Research. Awardees of the IEA Research and Development Fund (see page 48) are also invited to present the outcomes of their research, which is aimed at improving and innovating IEA procedures.
"A unique opportunity to feature and engage with the often unseen work of IEA experts."
We look forward to welcoming you in Rome with a poster, paper, symposium, or just a curious mind.
We are certain it will be a week filled with lively exchanges and presentations from the welcome reception through the conference sessions, continuing over coffee breaks and lunches.
Methodology is one strand of the IRC, along with Policy, Practice, and IEA Studies and Publications. The Policy strand will feature ways in which IEA data can contribute to data- informed decision making and allows a unique opportunity for those involved in education policy to reflect on the use and importance of IEA data. Examples of actionable knowledge for education practitioners will be highlighted in the Practice strand. The IEA Studies and Publications strand will feature outcomes of the analysis across IEA studies, as well as the work on upcoming publications. The four strands represent the diverse audience of IEA stakeholders: researchers, policymakers, educators, as well as other professions of experts working within education systems. The IEA IRC therefore provides a unique opportunity to allow these groups to come together, to engage and focus on the ways that IEA data can serve education in national and global educational communities. This collaboration is crucial for meeting the needs and ambitions of global education priorities related to the Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainable futures implies that there are multiple pathways to reaching positive outcomes, and each IEA study contributes a unique perspective to these possibilities.
We hope to see you engaged and invigorated at the 11 th IEA IRC.
Registration opens on 1 October 2024. See the IEA IRC webpage for a list of key dates and other information: iea.nl/ news-events/irc/11th-international-research-conference- iea-irc . ■
