As a community bank, we believe in fostering community growth through volunteerism, sponsorship, and involvement. These community values shine bright in not only our Friends Club activities, but also in our members! Friends Club is made up of an amazing group of loyal customers who also foster growth in our community through supporting local organizations, engaging in historic preservation, providing mentorship to community youth, volunteering medical assistance, and so much more. Enter our Friends Club Member Spotlight! Each quarter, we will feature an employee-nominated Friends Club member who is fostering community growth through volunteerism and involvement. Hills Bank will donate $250 to a local non-profit on behalf of this member to show our support for the work they do in our community! This quarter, we sat down with Tina Koepnick from Iowa City, IA . A retired high school biology teacher, she volunteers as a side walker, horse lead, and team lead for classes at Miracles in Motion – an equestrian therapy organization in Swisher, IA that serves individuals with physical, cognitive, and social challenges, as well as those with chronic conditions, veterans, first Member Spotlight Tina Koepnick
responders, and caregivers. Tell us a bit about yourself Tina: How did you end up in Southeast Iowa? I grew up in central Iowa (Ankeny), and came to the University of Iowa, where I met my husband. He also became a high school biology teacher at City High, and we worked there together for 36 years. Ankeny was a lot smaller when I
grew up there, and the community bank was the lifeblood of the town. So as we put down roots here in Iowa City, that was something I sought out with Hills Bank. Why was banking with a community bank important to you? I love walking into the bank and seeing former students, or my
neighbors, or the employees that would come down every August and serve us breakfast at the schools. Hills Bank has really been there for me as my life has gone along: all our home mortgages, our children’s Penny Saver accounts, and even when my mom was reaching the end of her life – all the financial things you have to do were taken care of by the folks at Hills Bank.
