MANCOZEB ALTERNATIVES
Algae Control 1. Manzate Pro Stick (UPL) *depending on availability/access —Same a.i. Different load but when applied at labeled rates, should provide similar levels of control of key diseases/algae. 2. Chlorothalonil —Best when used preventively at rates of 3 oz+/1,000 sq ft. Higher rates required in curative situations. Daconil Zn has historically been preferred, but Ultrex and Weatherstik also work. 3. Title Phyte —When used in a program for Pythium and plant health, phosphites have been shown to help prevent against algae infestations. 4. Copper Sulfate —Apply 3 to 5 oz in 5 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet, or use a copper-containing fungicide according to label recommendations. 5. Fluazinam —Not well proven for algae control but labeled. Likely requires multiple applications to be effective. Leaf Spot Control 1. Manzate Pro Stick (UPL) *depending on availability/access —Same a.i. Different load but when applied at labeled rates, should provide similar levels of control of key diseases/algae. 2. Chlorothalonil —Alone or in combination, a top product for leaf spot control. Higher rates when used curatively. Excellent combo with Signature/Title Phyte 3. Strobilurins/QoI’s —Azoxy, trifloxy, pyrac, fluox – all the strobis do a very good job on leaf spot. Best when used preventively and also in combination with a contact like chlorothalonil or fluazinam 4. Fluazinam —A great rotational tool for leaf spot and solid combination partner with Signature/Title Phyte. 5. Iprodione —Also a great rotational partner alone as 26019/26GT or as a premix in Interface. Only product in the dicarboxamide family. 6. Ascernity —The DMI and SDHI combo here are unique in that they provide excellent control of leaf spot (most in these classes don’t). Best used preventively and as a rotational tool for other diseases given it’s broad spectrum. A global shortage of the active ingredient mancozeb is affecting availability of Fore and other mancozeb based products in the turf market through 2024 and beyond. Specifically, Harrell’s access to Fore and Dithane will be limited moving forward. Below are some alternatives to mancozeb to consider when making agronomic recommendations to customers.
