A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

This week has seen the beginning of our extracurricular clubs. Information about this can be found on your child’s form Google Classroom as well as on our school website. We encourage students to try a club and get involved as this is a great way to meet new friends and have some fun. We are now halfway through our Year 7 visits to Thames Young Mariners. 7EDA and 7EST basked in glorious sunshine whereas 7FLE and 7FFR were faced with more typically autumnal weather. All students have shown a great attitude and have had very successful days. The remaining half of the year group will have their visits next week. Please ensure that you have read the trip letter carefully, particularly regarding the meeting arrangements and required clothing. Students are continuing their hard work as they keep collecting lots of epraise points, with 7EST, 7SSH and 7FLE leading the way this week. Congratulations to Florence B in 7EST who has received the most points this week. We are looking forward to welcoming Year 7 families to our Bingo evening next week. This is a great opportunity to meet other families in Year 7 as you begin the Waldegrave journey together. Tickets are available on ParentPay. There is a Scholastic Book Fair taking place in the school conference room next week. There are over 200 titles for students to choose from with prices starting from as little as £2.99. We would be grateful for your support as each book purchased can earn rewards to help us get free books for our school library. Payment can be made online or students can bring cash or card with them on the day.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon The sun is also a star is told through the perspective of two teenagers whose lives cross paths and so they spend 12 fateful hours together. It explores how they struggle with parental relationships and expectations, coping with pressures of racism and immigration and the meaning of love and life. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

Macmillan Coffee Morning has returned to Waldegrave for another year! On Tuesday 26 September we will be hosting a bake sale in the main hall to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Charity. We are encouraging students to bake a cake or sweet treat in theme with their house colours. Please remember when baking that nut-based products must be avoided. If you’re not up for baking, you can still come and buy some cakes on the day. Sixth Formers will be invited into the hall at break time whilst Years 7-11 will be allowed to purchase cakes at lunch time, so don’t forget to bring some coins into school! Last year Waldegrave raised £1100 in support of the charity. Let’s try our best to raise even more this year!
