SAND REPLENISHMENT CAMPAIGN AT POINT BEACH, DURBAN
CALL OPENED FOR SUBMISSION:
DFO APPLICATIONS TO ATTEND FESTIVAL AND MARKETS Filmmakers who wish to attend festivals and markets are urged to apply for funding from the Durban Film Office (DFO). The DFO offers grant support of R30 000 to eThekwini filmmakers to attend local and international film festivals and pitching sessions to promote their films and television products. This also promotes the eThekwini film and television industry. The grant support covers the following: • Flights, accommodation, registration fees, and marketing materials to be used for a festival or market as approved. Hlophe@durban.gov.za NB: The applications are open throughout the year; support is subject to availability of the budget.
The public is advised of the sand nourishment campaign taking place on Durban’s Point Beach, close to the North Pier. The sand replenishment is being rolled out jointly by eThekwini Municipality and Transnet National Ports Authority. It will run from 15 June into July 2022. The public is urged to note that the time frame may change based on operational factors that need to be taken into consideration. The public is urged to exercise caution during the sand replenishment campaign as work zones on the beach will be inaccessible. This is to ensure public safety during operations. The City urges the public to adhere to the safety measures that will be in place.

PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE REGARDING AN APPLICATION FOR THE ADOPTION OF A MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT PLAN Notice is hereby given regarding an application for the adoption of a Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014. The eThekwini Municipality has appointed EnviroPro to complete the public participation associated with the Maintenance Management Plan for the ongoing Beach Replenishment Scheme from Vetch’s Pier (29°52’10.23 “S 31° 3’12.35 “E ) in the South to the Umgeni Mouth (29°48’46.60 “S 31° 2’23.96”E) in the North. The Scheme provides an average of 500 000m³ of sand per annum to ensure the beaches are adequately maintained. The application has been submitted to the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs Ref No. MMP-0001-2022. This advert serves to notify all potential Interested & Affected Parties (I&APs) of the aforementioned activities. Any I&AP who wish to know more are invited to register with the contact person below.
