Pegatron Corporation, based in Taiwan, and maxon have announced a strategic partnership in robotics. Together, the two companies will develop technolo- gies for robotic joint drives, motor mod- ules, and integrated robotic systems. The collaboration focuses on motion control, sensor integration, and edge AI applications for autonomous systems. It covers technologies that can be flexi- bly adapted to different applications and operating environments. A first result was unveiled at Compu- tex in Taipei, Taiwan: the quadruped robotic platform SIMBA II features max- on’s High Efficiency Joint 90 (HEJ 90). Pegatron’s decision to use an inte- grated joint module reflects a broader trend. Modern robots feature an in creasing number of degrees of free- dom. Every additional axis increases the demands on motion control, cabling, and system integration. At the same time, sensing, computing, and drive
technology are becoming ever more closely integrated.
Combining expertise Robotic platforms such as SIMBA II combine sensing, artificial intelligence, software, and precision drive technology into a complete system. While high- er-level motion planning and autonomy are implemented in the robotics soft- ware, integrated joint actuators ensure the precise and dynamic movement of each individual axis. With the High Efficiency Joint 90, maxon contributes a key building block for the robotic platform. Pegatron brings its expertise in system development, edge AI and industrial manufacturing. SIMBA II marks the beginning of this partnership. Going forward, the collab- oration aims to further advance the use of intelligent mobile robotic systems in industrial, commercial, and specialized applications.
