for one-day-a-week study sessions for all teachers. They heard special­ ists in many fields called in to lec­ ture on methods and means. Near the end of May, Thelma lined up her auxiliary staff of men and women to handle secretarial duties, refreshments, transportation and other stand-by jobs. And in June they rested— free from the frantic last-minute appeals and mid­ night study that others know who start too late. In the first week of July the church conducted a short dedication service in an evening service to pray for each teacher and worker and commit their ministry unto the Lord. By the middle of July they were poised and ready for the rush of kids. It was fun. Even though it might sound con­ tradictory, it works out that the more demands you put on more people, the more workers you’ll get. And the more workers you have, the more interest you’ll arouse, the more prayer support you’ll have. Verna Briggs of Kingston, Term., discovered this. She said, “ By in­ viting new people in to help, we found two really consecrated pray­ ing mothers who were a great help in winning 13 Juniors to Christ. The mothers received a greater blessing than they had ever experienced be­ fore.” Careful preparation of each les­ son will be a safeguard for each teacher against discipline problems. Make sure the room is orderly. Have supplies enough for all pupils— even something for the early birds. Pro­ vide for variety in seating and room arrangement. When there is a problem, you’ll do well to learn the cause (home, school, handicap, conviction of sin, etc.). Pray much about each one. Be sure you laugh with, not at the pupils. Deal fairly with all. Re­ member, restlessness and indiffer­ ence often result from physical de­ velopment. Be firm in the princi­ ples of your conduct. Teach by ex­ ample reverence for God, His Word and His house. Keep in mind the value of one soul. Christ died for problem children, too. Here are some don’ts for teachers.
