Ambassador Press presents this year a unified graded course entitled “Jesus the Alm ighty Son of God.” It centers around the miracles of Christ and is based on the theme verse, “A ll power is given unto me in heaven and on earth.” The course is departmentally graded, lower grades (pre school to grades 4 or 5 ), upper grades (6 to 8 ). Teachers’ manual, lower grades, 50c; upper grades, 55c. Pupils’ manuals, 20c; handwork projects, 18c. The A SSU this year presents the first unit of the cycle of “ Our Redeemer” series. Title of this first year’s unit is “Our Need of a Redeemer.” Emphases are upon the plan of salvation and the application to daily living for Christ. Pupils’ workbooks on the Beginner, Primary, Junior and In termediate levels, with co rr e sp o n d in g teachers’ workbooks, comprise the basic teaching material of the course. Supple menting these items is the director’s man ual. Memory work, music, handwork, vis ual aids suggestions and plans for the con ducting of a vacation Bible school— all are directed toward carrying out the theme of the course. This year the Baptist Sunday School Board, issuing material published by Broad- man Press, offers a complete line of VBS textbooks plus record forms, advertising cards and posters, pupils’ recognition cer tificates, handwork materials and audio visual supplies. The graded series includes the themes Learning About Jesus for Be ginners (Book B ), Exploring Our Bible for Primaries (Book B ), The Bible—A Living Book for Juniors (Book B ), and The Bible — A Living Book for Intermediates (Book B ). Concordia presents this year a two-week course (10 lessons for each of the five age levels — Nursery to Senior) around the theme “Let’s Learn About God.” A com plete fine of attractive accessories are avail able for the course. Teachers’ manuals are 50c, pupils’ workbooks, 35c and art projects, 89c. Covenant Press (The Evangelical Covenant Church of America) 5101 N. Francisco Ave. Chicago 25, III. Covenant Press publishes VBS material this year around the theme “Bible Trea sures.” Beginners study lessons called Trea sury of Helpers. Primaries use a course called Friendship Treasures. For Juniors it’s Treasures of Joy, and for Intermed iates, Treasure Hunt. A special study de signed for the closing program is called Sharing Our Treasures. It leads the stu dent into a study of home missions includ ing such under-privileged groups as the North American Indians, Mexicans and migrants. Guide book costs 25c. Teachers’ manuals are $1.00 and pupils’ workbooks, 25c. Although the David C. Cook Publishing Co. does not produce its own complete VBS course, it does offer some fine accessories which supplement the VBS program and are helpful as awards and handwork ac tivities. Examples are: a mural entitled “Jesus and the Children,” pic-to-make handwork, make-a-mural handwork and the Life of Jesus, the Little Bible and Bible Treasures— all tiny booklets for children’s little hands. Prices given in a catalog available. Gospel Light Press (Inter-denominational) 725 E. Colorado Blvd. Glendale 5, Calif. “Bible Sea Adventures” keynote the Gospel Light material for this season. This theme uses numerous nautical references from the account of Noah’s Ark to Paul’s shipwreck thousands of years later. There are 10 new features to the course: 1) the material is complete; 2) Pre-school and Primary pupils’ books are pre-cut; 3) the. four departmental courses are correlated on the one over-all nautical theme; 4) an adult program is outlined in the Skipper’s David C. Cook Publishing Co. (Inter-denominational) Elgin, III.
Guide; 5) courses are graded to the abil ities of each age group; 6) it is Christ- centered; 7) it teaches the Bible; 8) it reaches a successful climax; 9) a follow-up program shows how to hold students and their parents for Sunday school; and 10) the average cost per pupil is low. The Skipper’s Guide is a practical handbook to help all concerned with the course. The Oak Hills Fellowship offers again this year its two departmentally graded courses. The first is adaptable for Kinder garten and Primaries and the second for Junior and Junior High groups. The courses present Old and New Testament miracles and a study of the many Bible towns in which Jesus walked. Maps help pupils visualize the life of Christ.
