Stadler Acquires Majority Stake In weeeSwiss Technology Stadler Anlagenbau GmbH, Altshausen, Germany, has ac- quired a majority stake in Zurich-based weeeSwiss Technol- ogy AG, which specializes in designing, constructing and operating turnkey waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling plants. WeeeSwiss has more than 25 years of industrial experi- ence in WEEE recycling technology. The company offers WEEE recycling operators full engineering, procurement and construction services, including a detailed analysis of the customer’s requirements,process design and factory lay- out, installation and startup. Alpla Builds Plant To Recycle HDPE in Mexico Austria-based Alpla Group is in the process of building a plant in Toluca, Mexico, for recycling HDPE (high-densi- ty polyethylene) plastic.As designed, the plant will be able to produce 15,000 metric tons of recycled-content HDPE made from post-consumer materials. Alpla is investing about $17.8 million in a facility that will employ 65 people and operate as a 100-percent subsidiary of Alpla.The recycled-content HDPE produced inToluca will be used for non-food applications,“for example for packag- ing solutions for personal care or household cleaning prod- ucts.”The target markets for collecting scrap and using the material produced will be primarily Mexico, neighboring countries in Central America and the United States. Alpla has already been engaged in recycling post-consum- er PET (polyethylene terephthalate) in Mexico since build- ing bottle-to-bottle recycling plant in 2005, along with Indu- stria Mexicana de Reciclaje (IMER). IMER is a joint venture between Alpla México, Coca-Cola México and Coca-Cola Femsa. At that plant, the partners produce nearly 15,000 metric tons of food-grade rPET made from post-consumer PET each year.
