From Stuck to Unstuck BY AMANDA MILLER

F or years, many Baton Rouge single mothers looking for support, encour- agement, and practical tools. Today, that same organization is entering a new chapter under a new name: Unstuck Ministries. While the name has changed, the heart behind the organization hasn’t. “The exciting thing about the rebrand to Unstuck Ministries is no one lost anything. Every service provided to single mothers before the name change is still available!” says Jennifer Maggio, Chief Executive Officer of Unstuck Ministries. families have known The Life of a Single Mom as a trusted resource for Since opening its doors in 2011, the Baton Rouge-based nonprofit has served more than one million women nationwide, including an average of 17,000 women in the Greater Baton Rouge area each year. As Louisiana’s largest provider of single mom programming and one of the state’s largest providers of maternal mental health services, Unstuck Ministries offers support groups, counseling, life skills education, local and national events,

financial coaching, back-to-school support, holiday outreaches, and more. The organization’s decision to rebrand came after reaching the milestone of serving one million women. As leaders looked toward the future, they began asking how they could reach women before they reached a crisis point. By expanding services to women facing challenges such as poverty, abuse, trauma, or mental health struggles, the organization hopes to provide early intervention and what Maggio calls “single mom prevention.” At the core of the ministry is a simple goal: helping women find freedom. “Unstuck means free. It means freedom from patterns that create barriers to success,” she says. Today, Unstuck Ministries focuses on three key areas where many women struggle: parenting, finances, and mental and spiritual health. Through education, counseling, men- torship, and community, the organization equips women with practical tools to build healthier futures for themselves and their families.

One of its newest offerings is Financial Freedom, a study designed to teach effective money management from a biblical world- view. The nonprofit is also preparing to open its Spring Unstuck Boot Camp to all women for the first time, while continuing to serve single mothers through its programs. Looking ahead, Maggio says the vision remains clear: “We dream of a world where women thrive, knowing their value and identity, walking in total freedom—laughing without fear of their future.” Whether you're looking for support, hoping to volunteer, or simply want to learn more, Unstuck Ministries continues to be a re- source for women throughout our communi- ty, helping them move from stuck to unstuck, one step at a time. As for the message Maggio hopes every woman takes away, it’s one of grace: “The value you possess is not in your doing or your busyness or even in the success of your children’s performance. Your value is intrinsic, granted by the Lord, and cannot be dimin- ished by anyone or anything. Sometimes, it is okay to simply rest and be.”
