Lane grew up in a single-parent home where cooking was a necessity, not a pastime. He bounced between restaurant jobs, searching for stability but never finding a clear path to turn his passion into a profession. That changed at Helms College’s Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality. Through hands-on training, real-world experience, and mentors who believed in him, Lane gained not just skills but confidence and direction. He rose to Executive Chef at Dovetail, one of Macon’s most celebrated restaurants, and later led the culinary team at Carlyle Place. Today, Lane has come full circle. He has returned to Helms College as an instructor, passing on his craft, grit, and resilience to the next generation. This is the Helms College difference. We don’t just teach. We transform lives.
