The Book Every Church Member Should Read. The book is an appeal for reality. I t deals with church life and reveals some of the un realities that enter into it. The heroine is a church singer who becomes convicted of the insin cerity of her part and turns from it to become a true wor shiper. Her joy in the result and her honesty lead her scep tical brother to seek the truth. Believing that God, if He is, “Ought to be demonstrable,” he resolves to seek Him after the manner of a scientific ex periment. He finds Him to his deep satisfaction. A thread of love-story is interwoven which accentuates rather than lessens the spiritual teaching. The story abounds in deep pathos though it contains much of hu mor and satire. The chapters on “The Church Social” and “The Missionary Meeting” will appeal to readers ac quainted with those functions as true delineations. The, story closes with a missionary cli max.
