Ian Keel receives an FMB badge from Gordon Marjoram

Thank you for your devoted service, Ian I t is with sadness that we report the death Ian’s firm was the proud winner of the FMB’s National Quality Award Scheme in 1995 in the Sympathetic Extensions category and, later in 2000, won the National Builder Award for New Construction under £100,000.

of Ian Reginald Keel on 12 July 2023. Aged 89 at the time of his passing, Ian was an honorary member of the FMB, having devoted many years of service to the construction industry and to the FMB. Born in Upper Langford, Somerset, Ian completed his National Service with the Royal Air Force, before marrying his first wife, Anne. Ian started working at W.Liddiard (Aldbourne) Ltd, the building company of Anne’s father. In the early 1970s, he was promoted to Managing Director, taking joint control of the company alongside Anne and her brother Maurice. Together, they employed 35 local craftsmen and specialised in commercial and residential medium-sized building works.

from 1995-97, during which time he visited members in every branch in the region. Ian is survived by his second wife, Juliet. Together, they attended around 60 conferences in about 25 years, including almost all of the South West Regional, National and European Builders Congress (EBC) annual conferences – and even a few in the Midlands. Ian became an honorary member of the FMB in 1999 in recognition of his many years of service. Even after retiring from W.Liddiard (Aldbourne) Ltd in 2003, he continued to represent the South West for several years as Chair of the Complaints Committee.

W.Liddiard was one of the founding members of the Swindon Branch of the FMB and Ian served on the branch committee for several years, becoming its chairman from 1986-88. He represented the branch on the South West Regional Council, serving as councilor on a wide range of committees, including BATJIC and CITB and represented the region as a national delegate on the FMB National Council for 10 years from 1984. Ian first became South West Regional Chairman and then served as President
