NORTHERN IRELAND HEAT SEES 18 YOUNG COMPETITORS SELECTED FOR WORLDSKILLS UK NATIONAL FINAL… WorldSkills UK National Finalists

E ighteen local construction apprentices have been selected as WorldSkills UK National finalists and will compete in seven categories ranging from brickwork to wall and floor tiling in national finals week commencing November 14, 2022. The finalists took part in CITB NI’s annual SkillBuild NI Finals 2022 competition, held earlier this year, supported by the Department for the Economy and local construction companies. The SkillBuild NI competition provides an opportunity to showcase the high level of skills and the impressive talent within the workforce, as well as raising the status and standards of professional and technical education and training. The WorldSkills national finals are designed to boost skills and confidence and are being held in key venues across the UK including Belfast Metropolitan College with finalists competing in Edinburgh. Alongside the drama of competition, visitors can enjoy inspirational careers advisory events and former apprentice and TV journalist Steph McGovern will be handing out medals from her Packed Lunch studio on Friday, November 25. Barry Neilson, Chief Executive CITB NI said,

“Congratulations to our local competitors who are representing NI in their chosen construction trade and qualified through the SkillBuild NI finals. Skills competitions are a tremendous opportunity to showcase our vocational skills and demonstrate to employers and future investors the high standard of training provision that exists in our colleges and training organisations. We also acknowledge all the participants who competed earlier this year in this prestigious competition, your hard work, commitment, and dedication is commended.” Barry added, “The WorldSkills national finals is an opportunity for competitors to potentially represent the UK at the ‘skills Olympics’ in France in 2024. We wish all finalists the best of luck in their specialist category.” 500 finalists will be competing for gold, silver and bronze at the competitions, which will take place in venues across the four corners of the UK in the week commencing November 14.
