On every hand we are confronted w ith the spectacle of honest men endeavoring, by u n scriptural m eans, to ‘‘b rin g in’* and “advance” and “build up” th e K ingdom , in stead of ad herin g to th e divinely-appointed m ission of com pleting the m y stery of th e Church. A nd the C hurch, hav in g been robbed of h er blessed hope, is^ in m any q u arters abandoning h er comm ission to preach the Gospel and has gone a t w orld-m ending, tak in g up the task of Cain and seeking to resto re Paradise w ith o u t C hrist. Law and Grace are m ingled to g eth er, the son of th e bond-w om an and of the free, grow ing up in th e sam e house. Flesh and S pirit a re no t recognized as tw o co n trary n a tu res in th e believer, and th e C hristian, having begun in the, S pirit, is try in g to perfect th e flesh. The perfection of th e C hristian position is not^ believed because it is^ regarded as an attain m en t in stead of a gift already obtained, and C hristian practice is consequently no t “w alking w orthy of th e calling,” b u t trying to be “w orthy.” A ny w ork th a t helps th e believer ou t of th is confusion and # into an u n d er stan d in g of the rig h t divisions of S crip tu re is- to be^ cordially welcomed.
