THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S “won’t you come in, we have something wonderful to tell you.” Truly it was a wonderful story how God had spoken to them during their illness and how both sisters quite unknown to each other had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ. Eagerly they spoke of their new joy and how quickly the pleasures of the world had lost their charm. They were hungry to know more of God’s Word and will. At the request of a member of one of my classes I began search for an old man nearly seventy years of age and unsaved. Knowing only his name and that he lived somewhere near the class, the Lord graciously led me to him and made opportunity for several conversa tions with him. He seemed to be greatly troubled over his inability to believe. His eyes were fixed on his faith, not on the Lord, and there it seemed the adver sary would keep him looking while the precious moments of a life so near its end slipped away. At last after talking to / him of the binding qualities of a written contract, and of the importance of God’s written message, I drew from my bag a card and wrote on it “On this ............ day of........| ...................:.....— I, ............... ................................................, do receive Jesus Christ as my Saviour, and trust my soul’s salvation to His finished work on Calvary’s cross.” I handed it to him with the request that he sim ply close in with God’s Offer by signing his name to the statement. And as he slowly walked about the room looking for his, glasses, I raised my heart to God in prayer to do His work in the heart, and take the man’s eyes from his lack of faith, and fix them upon Jesus Christ. Carefully reading the card over, he took the proffered pencil, and signed his name. Then I handed the card to his dear old wife, who had a Christian bringing up, but had never received Christ, and with tears streaming down her face, she placed her name below that of her husband, and hand in hand they began the Christian life.—Mrs. T. 316 The work at Bellridge is maintained there by Mrs. Vickrey, whose devoted- ness to Christ is simply beautiful. All alone by herself, with a great stretch of desert on either side, she maintains her little Sunday School. She puts many to shame. Last Lord’s Day we were at Reward, and with the assistance of another brother, gave a message which seemed to cheer them. The last time we preached there the Superintendent of one of the leases, a young millionaire, sat in the audience. When we went back we learned he had succumbed to the “flu.” Oh, to be faithful with souls! While doing some house to house work the Lord gave us a soul—a poor woman entangled in “New Thought.” These cases are very difficult to deal with, but she knew her need and accepted the Gospel. She is finding great joy in studying her Bible. Have been preaching a series of ser mons here and there entitled “Great Teachings of the Book of Books,” and find it has been a “congregation win ner,” for the people do enjoy hearing “thus saith the Lord,” and we intend, God willing, to continue along this line for our Spring work. We have a nice Thursday evening Bible class in Taft though the “flu” keeps some from com ing out. What a faithful Lord we have! May He grant us grace that for the coming year we may spend and be spent in His blessed service.—F. J. Shelley, Supt.
