APRIL 6 , 1919 GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER Golden Text: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed he thy name. Matt. 6:9. LESSON TEXT Matt. 6:24-34. (Read Gen. 1:1-27; Ps. 103:1-14; Matt. 6:24-34.)

say unto you, T h at even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (30) W herefore, if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (31) T here fore take no thought, saying, W hat shall we eat? or, W hat shall we drink? or, W herew ithal shall we be clothed? (32) For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly F a th er knoweth th a t ye have need of all these things. (33) B ut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his rig h t eousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (34) T ake th ere fore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day isf the evii thereof. means “made out of nothing.” This word is used in verses 1, 21 and 27. In the first instance, it records how matter was brought into existence. In the sec ond, how life was introduced. In the third, how humanity, or human life, began. Inanimate nature, animate nature, human nature, all three origin ated with God, and by God, and for God. God manifested Himself in and through nature (Acts 14:15-17; Rom. 1:18-23), but God is not nature, and nature is not God, despite all that pan theism, oriental or occidental, asserts. Note the order of the events: First day—Light. Second day—Heaven. Third day—Earth.

(24) No m an can serve two m asters: for either he will h a te the one, and love th e other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye can not • serve God and mammon. (25) Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, w hat ye shall eat, or w hat ye shall drink; nor y e t for your body, w hat ye shall put on. Is not the life more than m eat, and the body than raim ent? (26) Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly F a th er feed- eth them . Are ye no t much better than they? (27) W hich of you by ta k ing thought can add one cubit to his statu re? (28) And why take ye thought for raim ent: Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; (29) And yet I I. The Father Creating. Three things stand out very plainly in the narrative; our Heavenly Father’s power, wisdom and love. X. His power. What shall we LESSON say of the power of EXPOSITION Him who out ot John H. Hunter nothing called into existence the very material from which all that our human power makes is made? That matter is not eternal; that it had a beginning; that that beginning was when God by' His Word of power spake and it was done, is the plain, positive teaching of the Bible. The Hebrew word trans lated “created” in our English version
