an abiding presence. This is the great outstanding truth of Christianity in connection with the Spirit of God, that when He comes, He abides; to teach comfort, strengthen and direct. The Coming of the Holy Spirit. The day of Pentecost was the birth day of the church as Christmas was the birthday of the Christian era. As upon Christmas, Christ the second person of the Trinity came among men, so upon Pentecost, He sent to men the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. The day of Pentecost found the disciples “with one accord in one place.” Sud denly a sound from Heaven as of a rush ing mighty wind filled the house and simultaneously they were all filled with the Spirit. The mighty wind became to them the Divine breath which made speech possible and the cloven tongues were symbols of many tongues speak ing many languages before unknown. The disciples, we read, “were all filled with the Holy Ghost.” The Holy Ghost came to dwell in them as the Spirit of power and the Spirit of testimony. “Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” The disciples went forth from that upper room to behave so strangely in the eyes of an unenlightened world that they were accused of being filled with wine. Peter stands forth as a conspicuous example of this power of the Spirit. He was but one of the company, on all of whom rested the same enduement of power and he preached a sermon that day and its results are traced in the con version of some three thousand souls. The Work of the Holy Spirit. In the passage of scripture we are studying we find the work of the Holy Spirit with reference. to the world to be three-fold: To “reprove the world of sin, of righteousness and of judg ment.” “In respect of sin” because they believed not on Jesus. Not sinful acts, but sinful attitude toward Jesus is the crowning sin. No need to mention

other sins then. What is your attitude toward Jesus? “In respect of right eousness.” The world holds false po tions of righteousness as wéll as of sin. Righteousness is God’s gift, not man’s achievement. His mission was to pro vide a righteousness by which men could be pronounced righteous in the sight of a Holy God. “In respect of judgment because the prince of this world hath been judged.” He was judged at the cross and from the cross has gone out the power that will make actual the victory already pronouficed. In the 13, 14 verses we find the work of the Spirit in the believer is to wit ness to the soul. A Guide to the believer, in his walk and an Interpreter of the Word in his study. Baptism with the Holy Spirit. Every true believer has the Holy Spirit but every believer does not have the fullness of the Holy Spirit which gives power in service, though he may have it. The conditions are thèse: Repent (Acts 2:38); Obey (Acts 5:32), (John 16:15); Believe (John 7:39, ■Eph. 1:13). The faith that receives this, as every other blessing, is the faith that counts it as its own. Have you the fullness of the Holy Spirit? a» üw A Helper at all times. John 16:7-15. Memory Verse:' “The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him.” Psa. 145:18. Approach: Some of you boys and girls can remember a time when mother was away from home for a few days or perhaps longer than that, and of course she left some one to BEGINNERS AND take care of you, PRIMARY but O how you did Mabel L. Merrill miss mother, and e s p e c i a lly when night came, you just thought you could not go to sleep without mother. I remember one time when my mother was away, and how much I missed her,
