AND LOCAL RESOURCES THAT CAN HELP! 3 GREAT BENEFITS OF HAVING AN IN-HOME CAREGIVER
Realizing that you or a family member needs an extra hand managing the house, running errands in town, or keeping up with hygiene is a tough pill to swallow, but it’s a reality of life that most of us deal with at some point. Many people assume that a nursing home is the only option in these cases, and, while some senior or disabled patients prefer or require nursing-home care, it’s not the only resource available. In fact, nearly 20% of the American population finds that an in-home caregiver works best for their circumstances. Not sure if an in-home caregiver is the right option for you? Here are three great benefits to consider: INDEPENDENCE Nursing homes offer assistance with tasks you might not be able to do on your own, but you have to leave your home to utilize it. In-home caregivers offer the same aid but allow you to maintain your independence by staying in your own house. PERSONALIZED CARE Since you would be the only person your caregiver works for, he or she can keep track of your preferences and give you private attention. What’s more is that the meals would be created with you in mind. DRIVING If you or your loved one has an issue with driving, whether it stems from loss of function, poor sight, or pain, an in-home caregiver can offer transport. You’ll have a ride to and from the grocery store, doctor’s appointments, and any other errands you might have.

CLASSIC APPLE CRISP
What do you do when apples are in season but you don’t have time to make a pie? You opt for a crisp, of course.
INGREDIENTS Filling: • 5 lbs Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped • 1/4 cup pecans, finely chopped • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon • 1/4 tsp salt
• 2 tbsp maple syrup • 1 tbsp lemon juice Topping: • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour • 1/3 cup brown sugar
• 6 tbsp chilled butter, cut into pieces • 1/4 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
INSTRUCTIONS 1. Heat oven to 350 F. 2. In a mixing bowl, mix all filling ingredients together. Transfer to individual serving ramekins. 3. In a different mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. Mix in butter until it forms lumps roughly the size of a pea, then stir in pecans. Sprinkle topping over filling. 4. Bake for 35–40 minutes, let stand for 10 minutes, and serve.
