The Xavantes, in Brazil described as “those who shoot on sight,” are excellent marksmen. Even airplanes flying low have been rained with arrows, for even a “large bird” can not be permitted to encroach on their territory. Yet, in the economy of God, those arrows, which skimmed, flashed, snapped all about the men, had never hit the mark. They had sometimes missed by a short distance, but warriors of prayer had claimed deliverance at God’s throne. Not only themissionaries, but the whole large party of Brazilians, in whose company they travelled, were spared also. Similarly, not an Indian had been harmed. It seems that had the exploration party not had the restraining influence of the “messengers” with them, there would have been bloodshed on both sides in that critical encounter. “Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not Thou made an hedge about him?” (Job 1:9, 10) There is no doubt that the prayer of many of God’s people had delivered the lives of God’s messengers from forces of darkness and also delivered those who were with them.
