When the Arrow Flies

One thing that helped us was that we were poor. We had to take our help· from Him, and you had to work while in high school. That made you learn to trust God, too. I don’t know if you remember that, when you and Ollie were real small boys, our neighbor asked you to trim her trees. She gave you each a dollar, and you both gave it to me. Then I told you that I had prayed for money, as I had no lard to make our meals. The day before, on Sunday, God asked me to give the one dollar I had in my purse for missions. I felt I should keep it for lard, but God said, “Prove Me.” I gave it in faith, but was troubled if I had done the right thing. When you each gave me your dollar, a voice said, “This will give you more lard than that one dollar you gave to the Lord would have given.” You know that when you went into the service we started a cottage prayer meeting in our home so parents could come and pray for the protection of their boys’ lives. To me it was much more than that. It was that these boys would all keep their faith in God and would be a light to others so that souls would get saved through their lives. God honored us in this and brought all our boys back safe, and some are living for Christ. You yourself know what Dad has been to all of you, although he doesn’t say much. A few weeks ago I had such pain in my heart that I started to wonder if the Lord wanted me to come Home before you would come from Brazil for furlough; but I am better again, and when you come we shall have a day of thanking and praising God, who can use a plain family, for He chooses the poor things to bring honor to His Name.

The Lord bless and keep you all, Love and kisses, Mom and Dad.
