Is it to eliminate the cancer, help my child feel better or both? l W hat treatment plan do you recommend and why? l S hould we look into clinical trials ? l W hen will my child begin treatment? l W hat else needs to happen before my child can begin treatment? l H ow long will treatment take? l W ho will be part of my child’s care team? What does each member do? l W ill my child need any special devices to help deliver treatment (such as a catheter or feeding tube)? What can I expect from that?
Questions about… Their diagnosis l W hat type of cancer does my child have? l C an you explain my child’s pathology report, lab results and imaging results? l W hat types of tests and procedures will my child need? How do we prepare for them? l S hould we get a second opinion? Can you help us get a second opinion?
Questions about… Side effects l What are the possible short-term side effects of each treatment? l W hat are possible long-term side effects? What effects may appear later in my child’s life (late effects)? l H ow can we help with side effects? l H ow will treatment affect my child’s daily life? Can they go to school and do activities? l W ill treatment affect my child’s growth and development? l W ill treatment cause weight loss or weight gain? l C ould this treatment affect my child’s ability to have children? If so, should we talk with a fertility specialist before treatment?
