Tasmanian Hospitality Review - Dec/Jan 2026

Industry Engagement Update

North West

The evening itself was a wonderful celebration, filled with entertainment, networking, and an undeniable sense of community spirit. Held at the stunning Paranaple Convention Centre in Devonport, the event showcased not only local business excellence but also the strength and unity of the region’s hospitality industry. Hospitality Tasmania looks forward to continuing its support of industry leaders who champion Tasmanian produce and deliver outstanding experiences across the state.

Hospitality Tasmania was proud to be part of the vibrant Devonport and surrounds business community at the recent Devonport Chamber of Commerce Industry ‘2025 Business Excellence Awards’, celebrating outstanding achievements across the North West. Representing Hospitality Tasmania, Gena attended the event and had the pleasure of presenting the Exceptional Food & Beverage category, an award dedicated to recognising businesses that deliver exceptional quality in food or beverage products, dining experiences, or hospitality services, with a strong emphasis on sourcing local ingredients and showcasing Tasmanian produce.

It seems to be the month for celebrations, with Gena making the rounds at some standout local events. First on the calendar was the 40-year celebration at East Devonport FoodWorks, where she joined John Alexiou and the community to mark this remarkable milestone. Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman

added a special touch to the occasion with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, recognising four decades of service to the region. No sooner had the festivities wrapped up than it was on to the Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry Christmas Drinks. This year’s gathering was hosted at one of the Chamber’s valued member venues, Marion Storm Café in Devonport. The atmosphere was warm and festive, and the food—crafted by the talented Claire Fielding and her dedicated team—was, as always, absolutely delicious. With celebrations like these, December in Devonport is certainly ending on a high note.

This year’s finalists: Sheffield Hotel, Spreyton Cider Co, and Taste by Bold Cuisine, each demonstrated remarkable commitment to elevating the region’s food and beverage landscape. From innovative menus to outstanding service, these businesses highlight the depth of talent and passion within the North West hospitality sector.

The winner, Taste by Bold Cuisine, received well- deserved recognition for their dedication to creating refined, locally inspired dishes. When accepting the award, owner and chef Simon Bold was noticeably humbled. Known for preferring the heat of the kitchen over the

spotlight, he was almost lost for words as he expressed his gratitude. His reaction was a reminder that behind every exceptional dining experience is a hardworking team driven by passion and authenticity.
