King's Business - 1947-06

If we will implement today’s heralds with “tongues of fire,” a present-day Pentecost will be radioed over the world. We are waiting for the living voices, attuned to the. Spirit’s pitch, to bring us the message of the Spirit The age is tired of its mechanics, whether in church or state; tired of its transcriptions, its cults, its* isms, its ideologies. It is listening for the Spirit’s challenge, "Thus saith the Lord.” The Pentecost of yesterday was productive of a mighty soul crusade, a new social order, and a Christian appraisal of property possessions. How anticipative of today’s problems! The agenda of that Jerusalem move ment is still the unfinished program of today. It has assumed larger proportions, is more intricate, and calls for mightier spiritual forces to move upon the troubled waters of today. If the statement of Dr. Jordon is true, “Statism has become the modern religion and govern ment is god,” then our only hope is a church, a ministry, and a national leadership, with “tongues of fire.” The Spirit must become our Great Ally. An inward alliance must be established that the Spirit may be at the con trols, to direct all issues. Then we shall march into the future with all confidence that the Spirit’s forces will triumph over a man in his world. I fear we are not fully appraising the need, place and power of the Spirit in this epochal time. We are ready to harness ourselves and to stake our all upon ingenious robots of our own designing. We seem to be skeptical of Pentecost-modeled plans for these advanced days. As the Spirit moved upon the primeval chaos and produced a cosmos, so the Spirit must move upon present-day chaos and create a new world order for the nations. The ages have been collecting the materials and sharpening the tools. The larger outlook has come, and men and nations must be more deeply and spir itually based. “Will'it never come,” cried Lessing, “that age of light and purity of heart? Never? Let me never entertain the doubt.” Yes, the larger fulfillments of the world processes are beckoning ;us. I am very deeply impressed that this age, in the program of God, is to be the beginning of a new world, in which the “Desire of all nations,” our Christ, is to see the Kingdom of God established in all its might and glory. The call is very positive for Spirit co-operation. He is ever progressive and making new revelations. God’s plans and processes cannot be fully known except as the Spirit reveals them and gives power to execute them. The Spirit must be our Teacher. It is my humble opinion that in church and state today we are making a fatal mistake in failing to make a Spirit approach to all of our major problems. The Spirit approach will find a way out of all our troubles and perplexities. The Spirit way will be the Christ way —the only way. All of this bewilderment today, emanating from the U.N.O., Palestine, Russia, the atomic bomb, is the re sult of a lack of guidance, teaching, co-operation and motivation by the Spirit of all truth, wisdom, power and life. The Master said the Spirit would take of the things of Jesus and show them unto us. Jesus is the One “in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowl edge,” for all conditions, times and people, but these treasures can only be discovered and applied to meet all human needs, as the Spirit reveals and activates our endeavors. The Kingdom building blueprints look to the Spirit Architect for realization. Human methods and materials are only synthetic products. Spiritual foundations, spiritual girders and spiritual domes must constitute the Temple of justice, righteousness, brotherhood and universal peace—and these are the gifts of the Spirit. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Page Twelve
