JUNIORRUGS BUSINES

Martha S. Hooker

I THINK there is something the matter with my Bible,” said Al- den, looking at his New Testa ment with a frown. “Why, what makes you think so, dear?” Mother asked, as she set the table for dinner. “Because at Sunday school today we learned the first verse in the Bi ble, and I can say it. ‘In the be ginning God created the heaven and the earth.’ But that isn't the first verse In my Bible. How come?”

to ask her to get me one, too.” And when he did, Grandma just smiled and said, “I’ll see about it.” One noon soon afterwards when the boys came home from school for lunch, they found Grandma there. Alden rushed up to her, his blue eyes shining with excitement. “Did you see about what I told you, Grandma?” “Suppose you look on the table in the other room and see if you can find two boxes exactly alike.” Both boys bounded away, and sure enough, there on the table by the window were two medium - sized boxes. In a minute, Alden and Nor man came back. They were so ex cited they could hardly open the boxes. “Look, Mommie, a Biblf!" “Look what Grandma got us, whole Bibles!" •Then they each gave Grandma a big hug and kiss as they thanked her for their lovely gifts. “Now I can find Genesis 1:1,” Alden said. Grandma said they must open their Bibles correctly, so the binding would not be broken, and she showed them

boys wanted to carry their Bibles to Sunday school. “We’ll be very careful with them, Mommie,” promised Norman. “I think it is better to carry them with out the boxes, because people might not know they were our new Bibles, if they were in the boxes.” Mother agreed with him. Then Alden added, “I love Jesus and I want everybody to know I have a new Bible.” “I do too, Mommie,” said Norman. “Last Sunday a lady asked me if I loved Jesus. I told her I had given my heart to Him quite a long time ago. I was glad she asked me, Mommie, because when I told her about lov ing Jesus, it made me sure that I really did love Him.” Then Mother explained how tell ing others about the Lord Jesus and about our love for Him always makes us love Him more. “One good way to let people know we love Jesus is to carry our Bibles right out in sight where everybody can see them,” said Mother. Norman and Alden knew that Mother was right

"Because you have just one part of the Bible, the New Testament. The Old Testament is the other part, the first part,” explained Mother. Alden thought about this for a few minutes, then he said, “I want a whole Bible. I don’t like a piece of a Bible. Why don’t I have a whole Bible?” “Well, dear,” said Mother slowly, "I don’t know, only we generally give a little boy or girl a New Testa ment; it is smaller and easier to carry.” “Huh!” exclaimed Alden, “I’m not a baby any more,” and he drew him self up as straight and tall as he could stretch. “I’m six and a half, and I’ll soon be in the second grade. I can read now, too.” “Yes, I know you can,” agreed Mother. “Maybe Grandma will get me a whole Bible,” Alden said happily. When Grandma dropped in the next day to see them, Alden told her about what he wanted. “I’ll see about it.” And that was all that Grandma said. When Alden and his eight-year-old brother, Norman, were getting ready for bed that night, Alden said, “Grandma’s going to get me a whole Bible.” “Did she say so?” asked Norman. “No, not exactly,” replied Alden, “she just said she’d see about it, but mostly when Grandma says that, she does it.” “Then I want one, too,” Norman said, “ I don’t like a part of a Bible any better than you do.
