Josiah was one of Judah’s good kings. It was said of him, "He did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left” (2 Ki. 22:2). He sent one of the scribes to the house of the Lord, and while there, the scribe was told by the high priest that the book of the law had been found in God’s house. It was taken to the king and when he heard it read, he tore his clothes and said, “Go ye, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found” (2 Ki. 22:13). He wanted to have his life and the life of his people guided by the commandments of the Lord. We may never need a compass to guide us, but we are constantly needing God's guidance. He has given us the Bible and the Holy Spirit in order that we may be guided correctly. K we follow His guidance, we will be assured of vic tory. but have you stopped to realize that many Christians have some of these things in their lives, together with Christ? We would not think of de filing His picture with these other pictures, and that is right, but we ought to be even more careful not to have anything displeasing to Him in our lives. Hezekiah was a great king, and he realized that sin and God could not dwell in the same house. In 2 Chronicles 29:16, we read, “And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the Lord, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the Lord.” Great blessings came to the people of God because the temple was cleansed. Great blessings will come to God’s people today if they will put away all the unclean things from their lives. June 8, 1947 A bide B y T he G uide

O b je c ts : A picture representing Christ, and pictures cut from maga zines advertising cigarettes, whisky, dances and theaters. Lesson: I want to show you the pic ture representing Christ which I like best. 'It is the one in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He went to pray. I have some other pictures here, and I want to ask you if you think they would look good in this frame with the picture of Christ. Here is one of a bottle of whisky. Would it be right to put that in the frame with Jesus’ picture? “No, he would not want anything to do with whisky.” You are right—it would be out of place to put such a thing in the same place with His picture. We have a picture of a pack of cigarettes. Do you think it would be any more fitting than the whisky in thè same frame with Christ’s pic ture? “No, neither one should be close to His picture.” Well, here is an advertisement for a dance. Would that look any better? “No, that wouldn’t do either.” I have one more picture. It is an announcement of a show. The people who planned this performance and take part in it are not seeking to know God and obey Him. Can you imagine that Jesus would attend shows if He were on earth? “No, of course not.” Boys and girls, you have been right in saying that these worldly pictures should not be placed in the same frame with Christ’s picture; Page Forty-two
Objects: A Bible, a compass and a toy ship. Lesson: Suppose you were lost in foggy weather out in the ocean, in a ship, looking like this one. How would you find your way home? "I would use a' compass.” Yes, those who sail the seas use the compass to guide them when they cannot see land, sun, or stars. Many a wise sea captain has piloted his ship safely into harbor because he followed the compass, even though it seemed to him that he was going in the wrong direction.
