6.6 Changing Lenses

The lenses on AVX systems can be changed to provide added flexibility and configurability. The lenses are bayonet mounted and can be switched out quickly and easily.

Cautions

• Do not leave the camera unprotected by a lens assembly to minimize dust settling on the sensor surface. • Do not touch optical surfaces. Oil from your hands can permanently damage optical coatings. • Handle the lenses with extreme care because they are breakable and expensive. • Place unused lens assemblies in a sealed bag or enclosure for dirt protection. • Store unused lenses in a safe place where they will be protected from breakage.

To change lenses, perform the following steps:

1. Ensure all system operations are stopped.

2. If necessary, remove the ring light as follows:

a. Remove the Z column cover by removing the four screws (two on each side) that secure the cover.

b. Locate the connector for the ring light that is mounted on the Z-column.

c. Disconnect the electrical wiring by twisting and pulling the wire from the connector.

d. Remove the two set screws that secure the light.

e. Set the ring light aside.

3. Using both hands, turn the lens a few degrees to clockwise, pull it out from its bayonet fitting, and set it aside.

4. Insert the new lens by turning the lens clockwise until the lens locks into place.

5. Replace the ring light as follows:

a. Connect the electrical wiring by inserting the connector.

b. Secure the two set screws.

c. Replace the Z column cover by securing the four screws.
